Is it normal to be turned off by overly masculine guys?

I only like gentle, caring, sensitive, "effeminate" guys. I can't even watch porn with a dominating, butch-type guy; it makes me want to throw up. I'm not a huge fan of scruffy, rugged, muscly guys with veins bulging out left and right. It can be beyond the physical too. For instance, if a guy is just to cold and hard and gruff... Also, I think it has something to do with knowing what that type of guy represents and has represented through the ages with regards to female repression... Like, when I see a super macho guy I immediately think "he beats his wife" or "he's gonna rape me". Or, alternatively... "he's overcompensating for his small dick" or "he's an egomaniac and spends his life in the gym!" Do any of you ladies know what I'm talking about?

Does this make me a lesbian?

No. I don't like normal guys. I like quiet, introverted, kind, gentle, sensitive guys. Like...overlooked, geeky guys that are really booky and smart and don't play sports. Now don't you think I'm weird...?

I still don't think you're weird. That sounds like a lot of women in the 21st Century...

  • I don't think this makes you a lesbian. You just don't like manlyness (physically). Everyone has different tastes, don't worry. I'm sure many guys who do spend many hours at the gym is to boost up their egos but some people do it just to be in shape. I just don't think it's normal that you think that those guys beats their wives and are going to rape you. Besides that all is normal I believe.

I'm not saying it's only "right" to like the sensitive type. Jeez! I'm saying that's the only kind of guy I'M attracted to. And that society has instilled fear in me with regards to built men that has been very difficult for me to shake. If I said I had a weird thing where I was only attracted to guys with blonde hair, and made a similar post, I wouldn't be saying, "it's only OK to like guys with blonde hair", I'd be saying, "that's MY preference, is it normal to have such a preference?"

I'm not fat, or aggressive, or a feminist. We're all equal. And built guys are just as emotional and sensitive as scrawny guys I'm sure. I don't appreciate how you twisted my words.

What about normal guys? You seem to be describing two diametrically opposed categories, but plenty if not most guys would fall somewhere in the middle.

Personally, I'd consider myself exactly in the middle. One of my fiancé's exs was a career military man, and another was a tap dancer--within a few months both extremes became huge turnoffs for her. And on the masculinity spectrum, I don't think I'm that unique, lots of guys are neither overly macho nor metro.

I take care of myself, workout periodically, but am far from a gym guy. I love football, but there are several musicals I love too. Regarding not liking gym guys making you a lesbian, I really don't think so. You could be, but that's not the reason. I have several friends who are fanatical about workouts and sports, and 9 times out of 10, women flock to me and my other friends who aren't that way, over the Alpha Male aspirers.

Just think about Hollywood for a second. Not that that's the best source for a reality check, but it can give you an idea of today's attractiveness zeitgeist. Aside from Gerard Butler, how many Romantic Leading Men would fall into your macho category? Now how many are effeminate? Most are really in the middle, no?

Personally I think this is quite insulting, your stereotyping and that's not right. It's as well I don't stereotype or else I might say most females like you are aggressive feminist cows with a narrow mind and absolutely no clue on basic human sociology. I myself am of a muscular build and would never lay my hands on a woman for any reason, however it would be tempting to go against my better judgement for u. Don't judge a book by it's cover.

As if a guy who worked out and isn't constantly crying and acting like a weakling cannot be caring, smart and sweet towards women. Now that's what I call narrowmindedness. Franchement, c'est moche.

Are you on a birthcontrol like the pill?

Because studies show that women on birthcontrol are more attracted to feminine men, but whn off it or having a period, they are more attracted to masculine men.

There is a long explanation of this.

If you by default is attracted to feminine men, that might be enhanced by the pill.

I generally view the really masculine guys as either douchebags or just kinda gross. In my experience anyway. :P

I dated one guys whom I would consider "manly" and he was a dumbass partier and all he ever wanted was sex pretty much and he pressured me a lot into doing things I didn't want to...

Hence why I think manly guys are gross.

That was just one experience. You can't judge all masculine guys like that.

I used to be the guy you described but as there was no Internet in those days and didn't meet any girl like you I've become more manly growing up.

my bf is a big teddy bear type, scruffy and not too effeminate. But I just found out he irons his shirt, and he's great in the kitchen.. that's about as nice of a surprise as anything.

everyone's got a type. I like effeminate guys too, but i like toned guys but as you said not beefed up butch heads. I do relate to you but less being raped feel to it. Girls actually prefer effeminate men on a certain time of their ovulation cycle because a feminine face is often associated with being emotional and a good carer. Why women are feminine looking!

    ^ agree. I'm bi too.
My boyfriend is small and I love it, he's also really sensitive and I find him so cute, he's really thoughtful which to me is way more important than muscles.

SoCal I hate racist like you. I'm 70 percent Mexican and 20 percent white. Yes I do have white in me. Just so you know being short doesn't mean you're not masculine just means you're short. I don't give a fuck I'm 5'3, I kick ass. I have a girlfriend who loves my body. So being short has its disadvantages but it also has its advantages sucker.
