Is it normal to be turned off by girls who take selfies?

I don't know, maybe its just the shameless self promotion of it, the fact they feel so highly about the way they look that they have to boast about it, the fact that they may be wearing their best sunday dress but be standing in their bathroom with their toilet in the background. It's like, well sure if there's a photo opportunity while you're out looking like your best, post it up no worries. But to go, oh wow look at me I'm shit hot I want the attention and to make other girls jealous just seems to me to be self indulgent and shallow. Is it normal I find this a turn off?

  • I wont lie. I have had very similar thoughts. But I don't think every girl takes a selfie thinking they are the hottest girl in the world. I am sure they go through multiple versions of their selfies to find the prefect one to post. I think everyone is a little self conscious. I really hate it when guys take shirtless selfies and post them trying to look all badass and buff. I think those are worse actually.

In this modern age you're going to have a hard time finding a girl who doesn't take them. But in my opinion as long as she's only posting one or two a month it doesn't really matter.

Taking pictures of ma self self self.
I take selfies but it's not a way to boast, it's just a picture, I don't try to make other girls jealous infact it's me who's jealous of other girls :/ and I only take selfies when I'm at 'my' best and defiantly not in the bathroom haha.

I wouldn't say selfies are taken in a boastful attempt to make people jealous at all. Maybe some are, but it certainly isn't the majority and it's extremely pessimistic to make that assumption. All it shows about the taker is that they are confident about how they look, and being confident in how you look is a very good thing.

I don't even know why "selfies" are a thing, anyway. It's a picture of yourself, that's it. I'm not sure why that causes strong emotions one way or the other in anyone.

    It's normal,
but because of the availability of
cameras in our phones these days,
(and the fact that people always have their phone on hand)
I guess we can also say
it's normal that girls feel tempted to take pretty selfies.
Who doesn't want to look pretty?

that being said, I don't do selfies for the very reason
    that they are essentially advertising.
    and I'm not into that.

some girls don't like having others take their picture (bad angles....they look fat......they look old.....or some other reason to feel insecure), if they didn't take selfies there would be no pictures of them anywhere. In a selfie, you control everything and you have the final say in what comes out. its not a conceit thing, most of the time, its a feeling of insecurity, that is why they do it (i'm one of those girls).

Yeah its totally posed thats why its a turn off to me. You can sense the insecurity and vanity in them which arent attractive traits!

Actually, people who are insecure about themselves are anything but vain....they just want for one moment in their lives, to feel attractive and normal, the rest of the time, especially when other people take pictures of them, they feel hideous

now we're getting to the bottom of this. You can see why it's a turn off and why its so fake

Are you suggesting that people who take selfies should just never take their picture again and have a blank space on their social network profiles? No exactly conducive to making new friends or even keeping the ones you have interested in you.....having no pictures anywhere means that they will probably become friendless and invisible

lol you don't become invisible if you don't post a selfie to social media haha you're putting too much emphasis on your online identity if you think that

since when does your image determine friendship? what kind of shallow friends do you have?

no just use a picture taken of them by someone else it's pretty simple

  • I don't mind selfies, unless they are taken excessively or in stupid places.

I took a family selfie at a wrestling tournament, and the people behind me were giving us shit for taking a (overly girly voice) "Selfie, guys!" I wanted to throat punch them. A picture is a picture, and it is nice seeing if I have anything in my teeth or if the picture looks ok before it is taken.

I guess I view it functionally. I am taking this picture of myself because who the hell else is going to randomly take pictures of me when I look good. I am not going to ask someone, hey, take a picture of me so it won't be a selfie. Call it vain, but I would like to immortalize my appearance and put these pictures in a scrapbook some day (I am sentimental like that). My profile pic is an average selfie. I don't do the weird faces or mirror pics.

They do get annoying, to a point, but in general, it's just a picture. I can see where you are coming from, and I am very insecure. So I will take good pictures of myself to make me feel better, however, I do not share them all with the world.

There is this one girl who takes a BILLION selfies and uploads them on facebook, from every angle, and that annoys me. Sorry my grammer sucks butthole for some reason.

Actually, a lot women who take selfies probably feel insecure, as though they are the center of nobody's attention. It is indeed saying 'look at me', usually because they think nobody is. They're doing it to gain confidence, not to gloat confidence.

Thats an interesting point. Thanks for your comment.
I suppose ive always taken issue with attention seeking and this seems to be one of the highest forms of it. I wish that these men and women could be more humble about their looks instead of fishing for compliments online. I think real beauty is in the confidence and self assuredness, even the humility of people who dont need validation for their looks. Sure everyone loves a compliment, but let it happen naturally instead of seeking it out.

I can see how full of themselves someone looks when they're seeking attention. Unfortunately, they don't realize they come off this way. But these are the type of people we should care for. My Grandmother taught me to pray for the *sshole, not the victim. The victim will be taken care of, it's the *sshole who will end up desperate for forgiveness. Though it's scenario is different, the sentiment is the same. The attention whore needs more love than the humble, modest individual. They have plenty of love.

Okay, first of all, that picture! xD That is pretty funny and is so perfect for this!
Second, I really don't blame you for this. I will admit, I take selfies, but they are all stupid and meant to look funny and dumb. But selfies are a sign the girl could be really self-centered. I am not at ALL saying all girls who take selfies are like this, I'm just saying some of them could be like that. Anyway, your "unattraction" for girls like that; totally normal.

Pretty normal. Seeing someone hot, but then seeing them smoking is always a turn-off for me. As for the selfies, I just ignore them, it will pass by, as with most trends.
