Is it normal to be totally normal?

What does normal mean? I accept the idea of 'neurotypical' since I have been told I am not by two psychiatrists. But at the same time most people have a hidden side which the public don't see. They keep their normal side turned towards their employer and other people they hope to impress. But they reserve their eccentricities for those they either trust or are drunk around. So I am not sure that anyone is absolutely normal because there are sides to every person I have known which are childish, self destructive, pompous, needlessly competitive, etc. So you or I may be normal in some respects and not in others, mature in some ways and completely immature in others.

  • In mental hospital I began to see what psychiatrists mean by normal --- it indicates a person who can cope with the every day buffetings of life without screaming, breaking the furniture, thinking of hanging themselves, or having vast amounts of sex, alcohol, or drugs. Excess is a give away. It is because something in us is not coping that we want excesses of every kind of pleasure and spending and extravagance of behaviour. Of course to a manic person normal people may mostly seem boring. But they are reliable which I find hard to be--there are too many side swipes and troubles. Sometimes I cannot face important appointments and am too utterly low for them. That is not normal or reliable is it?

Normal... is to strap on so many layers of masks that you forget the real you under the weight of all of the plaster.

"Normal" needs a swift kick in the ass.

    Normal is all relative.

What is normal to me is not normal to you.

Normal is in the eye of the beholder.

Only you and you alone can say what is normal.

    "Normal" is a relevant term.
What is considered normal in Iran may not be so normal in the USA and vice versa.
Just try to exist as normal in the current situation you're in at the present time.
It's not all that complicated unless you're really stoned.
