Is it normal to be tired but unable to sleep?

My sleeping hours have been messed up for a while now, I started staying up to watch the sun rise and ended up getting little to no sleep at all. After about a month I decided to quit because I realized I was starting to look like a zombie.

I tried to get back on track but it feels impossible. I've slept fourteen hours one day/night then slept three the next... Last night I tried going to bed at 3 AM but I couldn't even fall asleep until 5 AM.

So is it normal to sleep like this or am I just screwed?

    i have it too. the only solution is to lay in bed before midnight. It bores you to tears but after 2 nights you'll be able to sleep.

    You just need a regular pattern, get up at the same time every day, eat at the same time. I know this is a very hard thing to do but its kind of the only thing that will fix it.

    my body clock is all outta whack so i find it really hard to sleep i don't get to sleep till 5 in the morning some days and have to be up by like 8

    that happens to me every year during summer vacation. if you are in school, i'd say try to stay up as late as possible, then let yourself pass out. soon enough, you'll be back on track. but if you're in the work force, then try to stay up for maybe a night or so and see if that helps any.
