Is it normal to be this stressed??

So I'm a senior in high school and figuring out what I want to do in life and where I want to go to college. But the process is beyond stressing me out. I understand that it is a stressful process and it shouldn't be easy, but every time the subject gets brought up or I have to sit down and have a conversation on it I break down and have a huge mental breakdown. This happens about twice a week and it seems to be affecting my attitude in a big way as well as my performance in school. It's gotten so bad that I don't care about high school anymore or senior year or my grades...I just want to go to college. Is it normal to be this stressed and to have it affect who I am? Im never like this! just this fall!

This happened to me too. I hate to say it, but it's only going to get worse as you enter your twenties. Just try not to let the stress get to you, and you'll be fine, sugarcube. Take your time if you need it.

I think its normal. But don't let the stress influence you into not dealing with the situation. I couldn't decide what I wanted to do or even if I wanted to go to college. So because I didn't know what to study or where, I just didn't go at all. Now 14 years later I'm in a dead end job. Finish high school, don't start slipping now, decide on a career and go to college. Its not set in stone, you can change your mind when it come to your courses, but go!

  • Normal to me. In my senior year I went through the same thing.

    "What fixed it?"

Basically moving on with life. I ignored the worry and just pressed forward. After a time I realized it wasn't even there anymore.

    hi

i don't know what year senior year is exactly (as i'm from australia and we dont go by that) but i'm guessing it's either the last year of school or somewhere around there. But hell yeah, it's stressful! It affects people differently. But it is one of those points in your life when you are EXPECTED to know what you want to do, make that big decision of ..what am i going to do with my life?

Don't threat, it is normal. You aren't weird or anything. Everyone does get like that some people are just better at managing or hiding it better.

But think of it this way, the decision you make you won't be stuck with. You don't have to go straight to college. You can get a job, travel a bit, learn about the world a bit more and then go from there. You have all the time in the world. Youhave your whole life. You don't need to make a decision right away, there really isn't a rush.

So take a deep breathe, get out, see your friends and relax. Just make the most of your schooling years because if you screw around and waste it it WILL screw YOU around later. No one wants to work in fast food for the rest of their life because they weren't paying attention or whatever in school.

If you think you need to "do something" in life, you've already failed. And forget college. Useless. Anyone who thinks they need to achieve something is absolutely pathetic, like an animal; obeying instinct, not reason. In this case, the instinct is to live up to the expectations of society. A human ought to be smart enough to just relax and not worry about things.

Perhaps she/he would find fulfilment and happiness out of completing a college degree and conforming to society. Perhaps what will give him/her satisfaction, is not the same as you. It could be that there is some sort of diversity in the human race which entails from what you glean a measure of contentment. Perhaps he does not suffer from the nihilistic mentality that he could never make a difference.

Completing college would set him up as far more influential than a degreeless nobody without a recognised level of intelligence. I am not saying that those who do not go to college are not smart, merely that society would more readily follow the ideas of a certified theoretical physicist than a hot dog salesman.

It would be impractical for someone to attempt to make a difference on society or otherwise outside society. Yes it could be done but it merely complicates matters. Money makes things work faster, as 'defeatist' as it sounds.

Perhaps you could just tell them that they should seek a spiritual balance with himself and that is what should give them contentment but not all people want this.

In regards to the IIN;- yes it is quite normal, especially for high achievers. When I went through I had some friends who would cry after not getting 100%.

We all go through periods of not caring because of the work, just keep at it, a little each day. Just remember it all ends soon.

"It could be that there is some sort of diversity in the human race."

Yes. Wolves travel for miles, malnourished and fatigued, to get one small meal. Mountain lions are almost always healthy, and spend up to 14 hours a day sleeping. Yes, there is diversity; it is between people who are intelligent, and people who are not, and waste their lives doing things the hard way.

"society would more readily follow the ideas of a certified theoretical physicist than a hot dog salesman"

        1. Not necessarily.

        2. People who try to lead others are arrogant, dangerous, and despicable.

Obviously, their mindset was neither healthy nor advantageous. Negative emotions are an absolute evil.

Your rebuttals are either irrelevant or unfounded and baseless.

I was merely conveying that it is normal for people to be stressed over their final exams. Did I say it was a healthy mindset? (that's rhetorical, please don't bother replying)

            But they are rebuttals nonetheless.
