Is it normal to be surprized to find out people like me?

I don't like myself very much. I've never been a particularly social person and I don't have a lot of confidence that I'm the kind of person others would actively seek to be around. I am usually surprised when people initiate a conversation with me, and genuinely shocked when people want to make plans to hang out with me. I am completely baffled when someone confides "I always wanted to hang out with you, but you seemed too cool." I'm not particularly smart, attractive or hip. Nor do I have wealth or power.

I was surprised too /: especially in high school. I was expecting not much of an applause when I walked the stage, but I actually heard some people going crazy. I though everyone disliked me because I was too nice.

But it goes to show; people really do care.

Nobody like me. Everybody hates me. Guess I'll go and eat worms.

I used to watch The Kids in the Hall. They said it in one of their skits. Im pretty sure its from something else too but I don't know.

Most people try to not be anywhere within 10 miles of me.

I am surprised when people appreciate me. Since people often don't and sometimes I find people who appreciate me more than I feel they should. I don't really like a lot of attention for stuff though. If someone says thanks or good job you know cool. I don't like crowds of people admiring me though. It kind of bothers me and I am never use to it.

"I'm not particularly smart, attractive or hip. Nor do I have wealth or power."

People care a lot less about those things than many people think. I think what's most important in making friends is being interesting, non-judgement, supportive and fun or funny.

I too get surprised when people notice me. I feel as if I'm invisible, and when people talk to me, it really astonishes me that they were able to see me.
