Is it normal to be such a picky eater at 20?

I'm a vegetarian but have never tried salad, tofu, any kind of berry, and a huge long list of other foods. I hate trying new foods in front of people because I get a horrible gag reflex if I don't like it. Pretty much all I eat are mac 'n' cheese, grilled cheese, cheese pizza, pasta with parmesan, and a few isolated vegetables. My parents assumed I would outgrow this, but now they think I should see a food therapist.

picky eaters many times have lazy taste buds. one way to perk them up is to eat those very very sour candies, or very sour pickles or lemonade. it is one of the treatments used in therapy.

have a main diet of things that come out of a box or bag will eventually catch up to you healthwise.

How boring... and what are you going to do if you develop lactose intolerance? The older you get, the more lactose intolerant you become. It can hit at any time.

Vegetarians who don't like vegetables are SO ridiculous.

How are you not constipated or suffering from a nutrient deficiency? You need to go see a nutritionist or a therapist that specializes in Food Phobias.

Not healthy at all! Try to add more vegetables and whole grains into your diet, not just once, but several times. Some tastes are "acquired taste". After you eat it a few times, you may start to like it!

Really, lazy taste buds? I had always heard they were oversensitive--that's why I like only the plainest tasting food.

And I agree it will catch up to me eating this way; I'd really like to be a local and organic vegetable eater, not a packaged and shipped mac 'n' cheese eater, but...I love mac 'n' cheese so much.

I don't have any health problems so far...no deficiencies according to blood tests, and I'm somehow the tallest woman in my family (5'11"). Only a matter of time before I get diabetes though....

i'm 18 and a very picky eater. i hardly eat anything other than hot pockets (only the pizza kind), white rice (with soy sauce), maruchan ramen (only chicken flavored) hot dogs (only a certain brand), and fast food (burgers: only with cheese; no condiments, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, etc) and a select few fruits.
it's not that i don't try things, but my sense of taste pretty much sucks. i just straight up don't like a lot of things. i do take multivitamins though.

YES... it is NORMAL to not like a variety of foods at 20. You barely have life experience, so maybe you haven't "come out of your shell" yet. Get out there in the world and go places, do things, learn about this world... and while you're doing that... try different foods.

Broaden your horizens... you only live once.

Oh my God! Are you my brother?! My little bro is the same way! Nathan, is that you?! No, you're not normal, lol, but if it doesn't bother you, who cares? Take some vitamins.
