I'm absolutely horrified to talk to any adult outside of saying the answers in school, or any girl besides something involving school. Whenever I do, nothing bad happens, yet I still think of the worst possible scenario every time I have to talk to someone outside of my friends (except online).
me too but i couldn't even say the answers in school... i used to freeze up and panic if the teacher or a stranger even looked at me to speak... but you will grow out of it with practice... no rush

Do not fool yourself,it is going to get worse. Take action. Start thinking about a policy to manage this shyness of yours. You can't actually eliminate it altogether so it is all about managing. The best you can do is find a stable group of people you can trust to hang out with most of your time. It is not gonna help with the shyness but you'll eventually stop feeling the need to socialize with anybody but your besties. What makes the difference between a shy person and an extremely extroverted one? the fact the extroverted one is not afraid of revealing potentially embarassing stuff about himself out of fear of social consequences.
These consequences can be avoided if people yoi hang out with have equally embarassimg things to say about themselves. :)
