Is it normal to be so foresighted?

I am 19 y/o male, and after my grandfather died he left me a bunch of historic family assets like a grandfather clock. He left all his favorite stuff to me although i have a cousin and 2 sisters. I didn't know him that well so I am very confused as to why he gave it to me.

Anyway, since then I have been really interested in geneolgoy and with ancestry.ca I have traced part of my family back to the 16the century england.

Now I always think about my grand kids, and great grand kids and what they will be named and who they will marry. I am in no relationship now but I always think of having kids and grand kids. I feel the only reason I am living is to give the stuff my grandfather left me to my grandchildren or future generations. I even collect stuff, like coins, just so I can pass them down to my future generations.
When talking with people, especially girls, and telling them I want to have kids and grand kids, they look at me like i am weird.

  • It's normal to look at death and think about the future. When my grandfather died I thought about much the same you are.

I did the family tree a few years ago too and it really gives you a perspective about our timelines. I think it's normal to feel like you do and it's also normal for anyone who hasn't done genealogy to find it an odd perspective.
