Is it normal to be so conflicted over buying a watch?

For years I've been struggling with the decision of whether to buy a watch. I don't subscribe to the whole time thing but there has been several incidents where I needed to know what "time" it was.

The clock in my car doesn't work. I think it got the vibe from me because it worked when I bought it but quit inexplicably a few days later.

I don't have a cell phone.

I could ask people what time it is when I need to know but that hasn't worked out so well in the past.

Buying a watch makes me feel like a sellout though. I've explored watches which obscure the time but still tell time. I sort of feel OK about those if it's a very strange, hard to decipher watch but I still can't take the leap and buy the darn thing!

It's eating me up inside. IIN?

*what should I do, buy a watch or not?

It's very normal. I do it over wrist bands. I feel naked with out them on.

Buy one. It's worth it for the convenience.

I usually only put my watch on when I leave the house and take it off when I get home.

When I used to wear it all the time, I so got used to the feeling of it being on my wrist that I forgot I was wearing it until I needed to check the time again.

What do you mean, the "whole time thing"? Do you think time doesn't exist?

    • I don't acknowledge the "time", it's not part of my life. There is only rare occasions when I agree to observe the "time" and when this happens I think I'd like to have a watch so as not to be late but I'm conflicted. It's almost like I'm a vegetarian who hasn't eaten meat in ages and is about to try a bite of a burger.

I take it you don't have a wife that tells you when dinner will be ready?! I love timing things or decide how long something should take, but I don't like watches, jewellery or glasses having weight on me feels weird :P

I personally do not like wearing watches although I do like novelty watches, for example a few years ago I was seriously considering spending a few hundred quid on a replica of the watch Sylar wears in Heroes.

If you need it,buy it. I myself feel naked without my watch, except when I'm on vacation, when I want to forget about the time. I have a solar watch, which never needs a battery, and it's atomic, so it's always correct.
