Is it normal to be scared to death of the dentist

I need to go tomorrow and I am feeling weepy just thinking about it. I think I have a hole in my front teeth and I'm going to need a big filling and I am so scared.

I can't stand them either. I get so worked up. One time I had tooth pulled (even with shots) I went into shock. I could hear the dentist but I couldn't speak or move for about 10 minutes. He didn't believe in gas because of his "religion". I now have a good dentist but I still get all worked up. Even a teeth cleaning sends me into high anxiety.

Yep it's normal. I'm scared of needles so I had an oral surgeon put me under while I was getting teeth pulled. Perhaps you could see an oral surgeon to do the same, except while filling your teeth.

I hate the drill (still!) and it's because they didn't give me enough of the numbing thing and so the wind from the drill gave me like this weird shiver in my teeth and now I am forever paranoid about that :(

I have the hole because I have a low vitamin d level well I have no vitamin d in my body, I can't absorb calseum at all and my teeth and bones are suffering from it. This is my fourth trip to the dentist for major work this year and I have also broken several bones over the last six months.

It is normal; plenty of people have dental phobia. There are ways of making the situation better for you. A lot of dentists can provide something called 'twilight sedation', meaning you're not aware of your surroundings and you feel totally relaxed. Your doctor may also be able to prescribe you short-term anxiety medication. You don't have to suffer in silence!

Dentists are very good at controlling pain now. If yours isn't get another. Why do you have a hole in your front teeth ? Sounds like you're not flossing and brushing. Good hygiene will reduce your pain significantly.

I bet one it's over you'll realize you got all worked up over nothing. Sometimes that kind if stuff happens to me too. I think it's the anticipation that is scary.

  • I hate going to the dentist but it's a fact of life. Teeth need to be checked. Although I hated getting a filling, injection hurt and then all that gritty crap in my mouth afterwards... ugh...

    So normal.

If it is for a filling, or for them to DO something to your teeth, this is normal, mostly. There is nothing to worry about really, the only pain you can recieve based on teeth is probably it being pulled too much. Or something like that.

I'm scared SHITLESS of the dentist..I think they all may worship Satan!! But ya gotta do it..so now I have someone drive me to and from now on...my doc rx'd me 3 Valium and off to Wonderland I go. Find a dentist that will "pre medicate" you so they can get u the rx and take the meds about 2 hours before u get to their office..trust me...can't do it without it.
