Is it normal to be scared of silence?

This as well as my other is it normal "Is it normal to be scared of food?" is another one of my weird phobias (I have alot) Basically I cannot stand silence, it makes me feel uncomfortable and as if something really bad is going to happen. You know when they say in movies "It's quiet, too quiet" basically that's how I feel when it is silent. I have to be constantly surrounded by noise, be it the tv, music, a fan or even just the wind. Is this normal?

  • I'm the opposite and I sometimes wear earplugs to tune out all of the noise pollution around me. Silence is golden.

if you are truly afraid of silence then you have "sedatephobia" i sort of know how you feel because for example when i am eating at the dinner table and no one is talking i get a little freaked out and have to say something, otherwise it's just awkward. so yeah i can see why people would be afraid of silence... but it all depends on the situation. some silence is good though. for me it helps me relax. on the other hand my friend has to keep her fan on to help her sleep, and my grandmother has to fall asleep to the tv. so you are not alone in that aspect. just keep doing what you are doing and you should be fine.

you may want to see a doctor if your phobia gets worse persists or you have to experience silence, especially if you are a student and have to take tests in a quiet room.
