Is it normal to be scared of driving at 22?

I'm 22yrs old and I'm scared to drive. Neither me or my husband (who is 23) drive but luckily, we live next door to his parents so we pretty much do what we have to do when they go out. We both know that either both or at least one of us needs to drive. My husband has ADHD and he's gone for his permit test numerous times and has always failed. We live in a private community so we drive around here (I have my permit) and when he drives, he's perfectly fine. So his only obstacle is getting past the permit test. I was just the opposite though. I got my permit on the second try and now I'm just nervous to go for the road test. Like I said, I drive around our area and when I do, I'm extremely cautious but knowing my luck, I'd go for the test and the instructor would mark points off for going too slow. An ex co-worker of mine took me for practice on the highway and that alone terrified me. I know that it's not fair to depend on everyone else and I always try my best to not ask for things and I KNOW I need to drive. Especially since my husband and I are trying to start a family. Besides the road test itself, what also scares me is me trying to parallel park and reversing. Please don't criticize me too hard. We both know we need to drive and I just need some advice.

I'm 19 and I'm terrified to go behind the wheel. It's completely normal to have the fear of driving because behind the wheel-there is not telling what could happen. I'm taking things slow and it also helps to have moral support. Drive around with someone that you feel safe with.

Don't listen to these dumb people posting these comments. Try and seek help from someone. People do tend to drive recklessly so I know what you mean. But you have to risk it and be independent. Good luck.

** I said commen sence in my head before every question of the exam to get my learners. It helped me to just clear my head and not overthink the question.

I'm going for my driving test on Monday actually and I am 20. I was afraid of driving and it took me 8 times to pass my learners so I understand both of you guys, but your husband just needs to not give up, pereservere and study! The time I passed my learners I said commen sence in my head and it worked. You I think just need to drive more and get comfortable with it. I was afraid of driving too; I still don't like it all that much, but now I'm willing to drive and things are starting to become second nature because I forced my self to do it and practice and that's all you need to do. Go take driving classes and have your husband take a D.E. class ; that will help tremendously!

Take defensive driving classes. They teach u how to avoid stuff that could g wrong and deal with driving anxiety. Even going too slow cancause more crashed than going too fast. The more u drive the better u feel. Go to an empty parking t lot and practice reverse and parallel

Do a search on the Internet for "driving" and "anxiety". There is a guy out there with a self-help program that is supposed to be very good. I think his name is Rich Preston. I saw it on an infomercial not too long ago. See if that might be something for you. Another option is a counselor to help you get past this. A car can really hurt someone if you don't drive well or aren't in absolute control of it. Anxiety is a terrible thing but it CAN be overcome with a lot of hard work and a little help. Good luck to you!
