Is it normal to be sadistic towards things people get mushy over?

Whenever I see people falling prey and getting swoon over very mushy things, I always love to imagine something going terribly wrong and cackle over the tragic result. For example, many girls love sappy high-school romance stories. When I see a high-school romance story that ends horribly (like the School Days anime) I cackle uncontrollably and take pleasure watching the happy-sappy nature crumble into horror. I'm even planning on writing a "love story" that has an extremely gory and sadistic ending so while the audience is cringing and crying in horror, I'm dying of laughter. Of course, if the matter is severe enough, for example if this ACTUALLY happened, I don't take pleasure out of it. Is that normal?

In any case, I don't plan on changing this. I feel perfectly comfortable taking pleasure out of sappy things going wrong.

That's been done before. 2 girls 1 cup IMO.

    • It wasn't sadistic. The two consented.

  • Gross, you're not the fun kind of sadist.

Haha you know when they were trying to get funding for the odd romantic film "leaving las vegas" where an alcoholic and a prostitute get together and the alcoholic drinks himself to death, no major studio would fund it because of its unhappy ending. Yet when a small independent film company chucked a bit of money at the project and the film was made, Nicolas Cage won an Oscar for his role and the film was a sleeper hit.

You might just be onto something. Write that story.

  • I feel like that often as well. There are too many pussies in todays society who get their feelings easily hurt. The only way to desensitize people is to expose them to the harsh reality of life.

You sound like someone I would love to be around. I don't like mushy lovey dovey crap either. I would rather watch a movie that ended in death apposed to a sappy love story. Why I like Romeo and Juliet its romantic and tragic. By the way should check out the "Romeo and Juliet" anime. They changed a few minor details but its pretty close to the play itself. I use to write tragic love stories. People dying for the person they loved. I find tragic love stories much more interesting than the typical "Perfect fairy tale story".

I'm two episodes in and the number of clichés is abundant. Thanks for introducing me to this anime. :)

        • BTW use Crunchyroll to watch it legally and to avoid spoilers from YouTube.

            Too late.

Anyway, I watched all twelve episodes and the ending was well worth it. I didn't jump to later episodes because I wanted to adhere to the plot. Yet again, thanks for mentioning this anime.
