Is it normal to be sad i can't lucid dream or remember dreams?

I really want to have lucid dreams, or at least remember dreams. I have only had a lucid dream around 3 times in my life, and every so often I'll remember some of my dreams when I wake up but forget it. But those few experiences with dreams I've had seem wondrous, and it seems like a shame to waste 8 hours on something I can't utilize.

Is it normal?
Also any tips besides the dream journal thing (most of the time I can't do it since I have to get ready for school)?

I don't recommend you do this often, but if you're okay to be sleep deprived then sure. It's up to you in how you achieve this but from what I've learned, the dreams I remember are often from micro-naps. If it is a particularly exciting and vivid dream, you will wake up sometime in the night, but if you're constantly waking up and falling asleep rapidly then you will likely experience these dreams. Try not sleeping so well one weekend and it might happen :P

    - Don't throw your whole sleeping cycle off just for dreams though, it's not worth it.

    I love remembering my dreams.
But on the other hand, lets talk about lucid dreaming.
I've done it before. And it isn't as lovely as you think it is. It's almost like not being able to sleep. It's kinda like your body being tense but your mind is wide awake and you have to dream up your own dream. It isn't even enjoyable. Just be happy you get some normal sleep (:
This may not apply to everyone, I was young then and I'm only 90% sure it was lucid dreaming.

I don't usually dream at night, or at least don't remember what I dream at night.

I find the most successful times to be outside of my usual sleep cycle.

I can remember dreams that I wake from in the early morning. (Although I often get cut off by someone else before I'm ready to conclude what I'm doing in the dream)
I also remember whatever I dram when having a light sleep as an afternoon nap. (but I sometimes get woken up by my phone)

My afternoon naps are like an opportunity to use my brain as a supercomputer to process much more thought than it does while I'm awake and it's controlling my body.
I'll come up with designs for things I want to build, simulate hypothetical situations to prepare for when they actually may happen in the future, come up with predetermined responses for difficult questions that I'm likely to be asked, organise my mental to-do list, and much more.

The dreams that I wake from in the morning are the ones where I let my imagination run wild and don't really try control whatever weird scenario my subconscious comes up with. I regard whatever I come up with in these dreams as valuable information, but it is usually incomplete.
