Is it normal to be really worried about going to work every night :(

I had a really horrible job working in a pub. My boss was horrible, left me on my own to do shifts and gave me no training. He told me I was useless at my job and they never paid me properly. I used to cry every night I got home from work. I finally quit that job but now I have a new job. It's in a club house behind a bar and my manager is really nice. I had my first shift yesterday and I made a couple of mistakes but nothing major. My manager is lovely and didnt make me feel bad at all. The fact of it is I'm still really nervous to go back tonight :( is that normal

You've had your self esteem trashed by your last job, it's only natural that you'd feel shaky.

Congrats on the new job :) I'm glad this manager is nicer. Just tell yourself that to work yourself up to going. If you're doing your best, there shouldn't be a problem, seeing as this manager is reasonable. Everyone makes mistakes their first little while on a new job. Remember to be kind to yourself :)

Don't let your past mistakes psyche you out, were all human and make mistakes, especially when we're new at a job. Focus and learn from mistakes.

  • Some employers are just really terrible at managing. It's unfortunate your first experience was working under someone who obviously didn't know what they were doing.

It sounds like you will have a much better experience with your new boss, but it may take a few shifts before you regain some of the confidence in yourself that was destroyed by your previous employer.

Don't be worried at all! Most new employees take several months to learn the ends and outs of their new job. Making mistakes is part of any new job. Congratulations. And remember, as long as you do good for your boss, your new boss should do good for you. :)
