Is it normal to be really awkward around your best mate?

I've been mates with him for a year and a few months but we became unspoken best mates at the beginning of the new school year. We have a lot in common and talk a lot at school but outside of school I find it really hard to ask him if he wants to do anything like go to town or something because I feel I left it too long to suddenly ask him now and that he'll say no if I ask.

    Just ask him to hang out, the worst thing he can say is no.

    Just say you're bored and have nothing to do. He'll get the hint and then you guys can hang!

    I'm in a same kind of situation as you :D

    I find it too embarrassing to ask my friend to come over or anything.
