Is it normal to be pissed about this pregnant man?

A few years ago there was a TV show on that featured a "Pregnant Man" (Thomas Beatie), who is just a female transgender person. The show was called "Pregnant Man".

Now there's all this hype over an update show about the "pregnant man".

She's not a man and every time I hear the ads for this rubbish I want to scream.

is it normal to be so irritated by this?

(yes, that's "him" in the picture)

His gender is male. His sex is female.
So he can be classed as a male. Personally, I think gender is more important than sex.

She is really female. No doubts about it whatsoever.
She was supposed to have a sex change and become a man.But obviously this was'nt the case. She still all woman as far as I know.

He's legally recognised as a man (as far as I known) and calls himself a man. That's all he needs as far as I'm concerned.

          • In the late 1800's, the US government ruled the tomato was a vegetable (true story)

"This dispute has led to legal speculation in the United States. In 1887, U.S. tariff laws that imposed a duty on vegetables, but not on fruits, caused the tomato's status to become a matter of legal importance. The U.S. Supreme Court settled this controversy on May 10, 1893, by declaring that the tomato is a vegetable, based on the popular definition that classifies vegetables by use, that they are generally served with dinner and not dessert (Nix v. Hedden (149 U.S. 304)). The holding of this case applies only to the interpretation of the Tariff Act of March 3, 1883, and the court did not purport to reclassify the tomato for botanical or other purposes."

I call tomatoes vegetables, even though I know they're really a fruit.

Tomatoes are a fruit, biologically. The US law didn't change that and neither do I by calling a tomato a vegetable.

The law places importance nowadays on a person's gender, just as long ago they placed importance on a tomato being a fruit or veggie. The law doesn't change biology, though. The reasons law says these things are important are nothing like the reasons a 'PERSON' find important.

Men cannot be pregnant. Period. He's not the 'first pregnant man', he's a biological woman doing what any other bio woman can do.

But people are fundamentally different to tomatoes. People are affected by what other people call them, have identity crises, get born in the wrong body. Tomatoes have no concept of "self".

People should be respectful of what other people identify as and call them how they wish to be called. In direct reference to BlueJeans' comment, he might be a woman biologically but a man mentally. His sex might be female but his gender might be male, and I think people should be called by their gender if that's what they wish.

Men CAN be pregnant. Male seahorses, for example, become pregnant. Sex/gender is not defined by which one gets pregnant. The definition is much more specific.

He is a biological woman but a man mentally, and that's what's important, I think.

Yeah, even though it may LOOK like a man, it still has a pussy (otherwise giving birth would be a little difficult). Biologically speaking, it is indeed a woman (albeit a VERY freaky one).

What exactly is the difference between gender and sex? Sorry, maybe it's simple, but I happen to be a Dutchman and although my English is pretty decent, I don't get some nuances, so please enlighten me.

Sex is simple. It's just whether you are biologically man or woman.

Gender is the issue. It's more of a classification of a person depending on what they see themselves as.

To put it another way, I think gender is more of a way of thinking. It is whichever sex that you identify more with. If you don't identify with your own sex, then you may get a sex change, which really only changes your sex in the eyes of the law, not in biology.

Sex and gender are mostly the same, except for cases like this and in what's called Androgen insensitivity syndrome, where men develop looking and thinking like women (brain looks like a female brain, with more white cells, less gray, etc.), but they have internal gonads that never dropped. The AIS are sexual female and gender male, but they mostly think of themselves as straight women,i.e. they have less tendency to be "lesbian" as a percentage of the population than "actual" women.

Then there's functional hermaphrodites who are both.

Firstly he is a man; that's the gender he is in his head, that's the gender he's had surgery to become and that's the gender we should view him as. Anyone who views him as a woman is displaying ignorance and a complete disregard for others feelings.

Secondly, people are asking "why are people fascinated about him?". While this seems to be a legitimate question, because being genetically female it is normal for him to be able to carry children. However most people who have transitioned are fairly insecure about affiliation to their genetic sex. nevertheless this man has chosen to become pregnant, something that his chosen gender cannot do. Thus this is a very interesting and abnormal situation. I have the up most respect for him for compromising his male appearance in order to bear children for his wife.

Thirdly the attitudes and ignorance displayed by commenters on this thread shock me so much that I feel very much inclined to make a thread about gender right now.

Surely someone's personality and mental attributes are what really matters and thus someone's mental gender is their real gender. Thus he is male whether his body is female or not.

Well no shit he isn't a man. I don't see how people are so fascinated with him. He was born a woman, he has female genitalia, he is a woman. So everyone is fascinated by a pregnant woman that has a fake pen0r. Losers.

It doesn't matter what she wants to call herself. If she has fully functioning female genitalia and no male genitalia then she's a woman. Male and female is determined by the parts and functions, not what they feel like. All she did was grow a beard and have her t*ts removed.

This...is disturbing. You can change your behavior, you can change yourself cosmetically, you can cut out organs and stick new ones, but in the end you are who you are. With the very same logic you can stick some feathers in your arse and claim that you're an eagle. Basically those people seem like they just celebrate Halloween all year long.

Why would a woman want to be a man anyway? You instantly lose your privilege of saying anything you want anywhere you want and keeping all your teeth.

When I first heard about him, I was baffled because the concept was so foreign to me. Now my concepts on gender are more flexible. I'm not going to judge him because, it is not my place to do so. You said something about a draft and abortion? In America, unless the rule has been changed, Transgender people aren't allowed to serve in the military. If he is okay with abortion and having one, I can't stand by that choice for religious reasons.

  • Clearly he looks like a man, but has female genitalia if he is, in fact, pregnant.

How was he able to become pregnant yet take the female hormones that caused his facial hair?

Wouldnt the hormones effect "his" fertility?

    I'd do him.

Personally, I don't see why everyone made such a big deal of it; the "Pregnant Man" was originally a woman, so it makes a little sense why he would be pregnant. Now, if the "Pregnant Man" was biologically a man, THEN it would be cause for "WTF, a pregnant man?!" reaction.

I'm just more confused about HOW it happened.

I've seen this. I think I remember them showing a picture of how he looked before becoming a man, and she was a model and very pretty. But anyway, why does it bother you? I just wouldn't pay much attention to it. Just like most of the things they talk about with the celebreties. Just ignore it.
