Is it normal to be particular about how you eat

When I eat a dish I have to eat the components in a particular order. For example
When I eat stir-fry: beans, baby corn, broccoli, bok choy, carrots, shitake mushrooms then tofu.
For any dish that has peas in them I eat them last. I also have a particular way in which I like to eat individual items. for example:
I eat peas one at a time. I like to squish the insides out then eat the skin. I do the same with hot potato chips. I also don't like it when my vegetables touch the actual meal itself (if they are not an ingredient in what I'm eating). I often (say I'm having curry) eat the curry first (without vegetables/salad on the plate) and then put vegetables on my plate. If someone serves me I normally eat the vegetables first (peas last) and will pick them of the curry and then eat the curry.

    Sounds like OCD.

I used to do this but now I eat in whichever way I choose. Sometimes, I hop around with my dishes while other times, I stick to one dish until I finish it and then I'll move onto the others.

I know a looooot of people have a certain order or way they like everything, your way just seems a little more extreme than others. I don't think it's a big deal though.
I have my own issues with eating lol. I can't eat in front of anyone that is not either my best friends, boyfriend or immediate family, no matter how hungry I am. I also have to tear or cut my food into pieces, I won't bite pieces off of my food. I also eat in an order. But it's not really predetermined, but as soon as I see my meal I know what order it will be.

  • I do this too, I always eat the meat last. Save the best until the end.

I used to be exactly the same as you and now I'm the complete opposite. I leave a little bit of everything because when I eat all of one component, the meal doesn't seem "complete" any more. Not in the way I planned it, anyway.

However, I did used to do what you did and used to laugh at my mum for eating the way I eat now. Although she still takes it to the next step. On every forkfull of food, she has to have a little bit of every component.

I don't know if we're normal or not. Probably not, but we're not harming anyone.

I eat a little like your mum. I dislike it when the ingredients are too large for me to fit one of each in a mouthful.

Heh! Maybe that's why she does it. Every forkfull is like a skewered kebab, with a single pea, a bit of carrot, a bit of meat, some green bean, some potato, some stuffing and then she dips it in her gravy or sauce.

Although I've seen restaurant critics do the same. They need it all in one bite.

I'm going to get paranoid about how I eat now!

People tease me about how long it takes me to eat.

I do chew a lot but it gives me time to get my next forkful just right.
