Is it normal to be offended by your gf's affectionate names

Simply put, my girlfriend who i have been dating for about 3months likes to call me names like dork and nerd, which is fair, cause after she started doing that i did it back to her playfully to and she isn't hurt by it, but even when i compliment her and try to be romantic she still only says something like calling me a dork for being sappy, or a nerd for saying things like that. is it normal for me to be upset about this?

At least she doesn't emasculate you with names like 'Sugar Bear' and 'Hunny Bun' or the elusive 'Bae' (What does it mean?! It's like an oral typo!).

i hate HATE those, that could be any other dude being called those things. personalized nicknames are way cooler than just being a random guy

  • I suppose I am guilty of the same thing. I call my boyfriend "Goofy" and "Mr" and "Dork" and often ruin romantic moments by turning red, getting awkward and resorting to some weird nickname like you described to release some of my inner weirdness. Don't be upset though, it is doubtful she is trying to offend.

I get embarrassed really easily so when people compliment me I usually respond with joking insults to take the attention away from me, even if I'm actually really happy about it.
Maybe your girlfriend is the same way?

tell her that you don't like it. nobody would want to publicly be called "dork", for example
