Is it normal to be obsessed with remembering things/memories?

it might be ocd. but i have an unhealthy? obsession with wanting to remember the past, memories. it upsets me when i can't remember things.
i journal almost everyday about even little things that happen during the day, conversations, looks, actions, so i can remember in the future if i want to.

I'm like you but maybe not to the same degree. I have drawn autobiographical comics, written journals, blogs and poetry and even kept video diaries. It's always fascinating to look back on and its amazing how much a single record can open up a lot of other forgotten memories attached to it.

My only advice is don't be so desperate to record everything happening in the present as it may detract from the experience of actually living it. Practice moderation.

ooh video diaries. i like that idea the best because you can see, but then lazy and then worry about storage.

but re your second paragraph, totally agree. problem is doing so. thank you!!

I couldn't agree more, I'm the same:). Video diaries are something I've really been wanting to do for such a long time, I might try it if I ever get a video recorder.

I wouldn't think it's "normal" but I think it's beautiful, though! It sounds very poetic and your life must be filled with details a lot of people will miss.

I often feel like living in the past too much, myself, but I'm not busy with it the way you are.

I still have this problem and I think it may be because you are stuck in the past, or you miss it too much.

I wouldn't call it normal but if you ever need a record of the happenings you will have it. Also you could channel some of this energy into writing fictional stories if want.

I feel you. I can be a little paranoid about writing in an actual diary because of bad experiences in the past. If I may, I would to suggest that you could use a small digital recorder or the record function on your cell phone if you have one to make a "note to self" if you need to in a pinch.
