Is it normal to be more connected to women?

When I was younger (not so much now, I'm 19) I would always watch a film, and feel more connected to the female actress. I would fantasize about being a hero and saving them, I was a bit of a tomboy. It was never anything sexual, I can't really explain it, I've always felt protective over female friends. I am sexually attracted to males, and have had boyfriends, and long term relationships.
