Is it normal to be married without rings?

Say someone wants to get married ASAP but can't afford wedding rings, or for some reason they have a skin condition and wearing a wedding ring would spell hours of inflammation and itchiness. Would you say it's normal for a couple to get married and stay married without ever having a wedding ring?

Oh please. You are going to let a little bit of symbolic metal rule your life? For christ's sake you could even have a ring tattooed on your finger if it was that important symbolically to you.
Love and marriage, yeah, ring as necessary, nay!

    • I agree with you, but I was asking whether or not it was normal, not whether or not it was acceptable.

If I ever get married I would prefer we had our rings tatted on our fingers, right there during the ceromony, to symbolize the slow, painful process of matrimony.

People are caring less and less about tradition as time goes on. I don't think it's common, but it wouldn't be too unusual.

When I got married the 3rd time I got my wife the most beautiful, fabulous, luxurious, ring in the world. It had 5 carats of the bloodiest conflict diamonds you can find. I don't want to say how much I paid for it, but I paid 5 million dollars. I am very rich.

I don't particularly care one way or another, and I know my fiance doesn't like jewellery so I doubt he wants one.

My "engagement" ring is more a prop to legitimise our engagement (I still hate that word ugh) to my bitchy client I was leaving (reasons presented as engaged and moving interstate, as more professional than, "You're a psychotic controlling cunt" :P). I bought it for $30 in Thailand about ten years ago. I'm not too fussed about wearing it or not.

Lol. I'd like a ring to ward off potential single seekers, but besides that I wouldn't mind.
