Is it normal to be majorly freaked out by thunderstorms?

So Ive always been really really scared by thunderstorms. Anything that has to do with them makes me want to cry. If it even starts raining I hole up and try not to freak out. It's not that I'm afraid of lightning striking me or anything, it's just the storm. I've never been able to explain it. There are only a few things that can help me not go into hysterics; my best friend, really loud music, or a blanket over my head... Does anyone else have the same problem? Or am I just a freak?

I guess it's normal. I like thunderstorms though. I live on the west coast where there aren't very many storms like that where I live. So when it comes I'm in awe. The only time I got scared is when I went to the east coast to visit relatives. Lightening and thunder was everywhere. Then lightening struck the power pole and hit the transformer. It was right next to the house. There were sparks everywhere and the power went out. Other than that I get invigorated. Stand at the window waiting.

I have the same thing... It's the thunder that scares me more than anything.
