Is it normal to be made fun of because you're liked?

It tends to happen to me almost every time. People just love picking on me and I usually find it annoying and take it personally and eventually cut them off. However, I've seen this happen to other people and it just so happens its their close friends which means they like that person. So basically that is their way of showing love. Could that be happening to me? Cause its not like its a few people here and there or a certain group of people, its like anybody! And I see that they mean no harm (some of them) so I take it okay that's just how they show their friendship towards me and I'll take it in a positive way. They do say when someone keeps picking on you they secretly like you. So that's another consideration of mine.

Hmm, depends on what you mean by "picking on". When you mentioned the friends showing affection thing, then I consider that something else entirely. I am definitely like this with close friends. It's just a part of our sense of humour to wind each other up, and laugh at awkward or embarrassing situations we've been in, or laugh if one of us falls over, or just generally mock each other, etc etc. It's completely mutual and although it might be seen as "picking on" each other by some people, there seriously isn't any malicious intent in it at all. It's just fun! It's a massive part of my sense of humour and I tend to love people who I can be like this with. I can understand why certain parts of my humour could be seen as mean, though.

If that's the sort of thing you mean, then for me, it's very normal. If it's not mutual or you don't like it, then that's different. If it's just a friendly joke, then try not to take it too seriously by getting offended, because chances are it isn't meant to hurt your feelings.:)

    • Ya like I have mostly guy friends and some of them like picking on me but there's been times where they tell me I'm "cute" so I am kind of taking their jokes on me as just their way of playing around with me. When it comes to girls, it depends. There's a gf of mine who is always sarcastic with me and it has become personal. Either she's jealous or she doesn't like me. If she doesn't like me then she is just too scared to be real with me about it so she uses sarcasm to stay away from trouble.

so its kind of hard for me to distinguish what friends are picking on me as friends and cause they like me as opposed to those who actually pick on me because they don't like me or are jealous.
