Is it normal that my boyfriend got upset abt another male sending me a compliment (very innocent however) but made in a jokingly way. I only responded lol but he stated I should put the guy in his place and check him. However it kinda seems crazy to just go off on someone and put them in their place when it was a seemingly innocent message. Nowhere in the message does he come at me in a suggestive manner so I didn't think it was necessary. I just responded lol and went on with my life.

    Someone who controls your incoming messages and tells you how you should respond to them or feel about them is giving off all kinds of creepy, emotionally abusive warning signs. That is emphatically not normal. Children get their interactions monitored; adults do not. He is not your dad, your boss or your master and does not get to do that.

    I have a feeling you're the same woman whose boyfriend got mad when he called her to bed three times and she didn't immediately drop what she was doing and come running. If that's the case, this guy honestly seems a little dangerous to me. Yikes.

    "lol" seems to be a neutral response, or a response someone types when they don't know what to say. tell your boyfriend to "be cool"
    (if you've seen pulp fiction you can say it in a Samuel L Jackson voice)

    I don't want to defend him but maybe what the other guy said was a guy-thing and your boyfriend had a clue of what the guy was thinking. But a "lol" was prabably enough in my opinion. It shows that you don't care about what that other guy thinks.
