Is it normal to be like this?

I'm 18. I was a great rugby player. I was in a really good school band. I had a loving girlfriend and great friends. I was happy. Over the last 1-2 years I turned to drugs, starting with cannabis and then moving onto more serious drugs. I hate it and I can't stop because i've lost everything I had. My new group of friends don't care but I feel like I'm dying. Please help.

At least you understand that you have a problem. Not much use though if you don't have a good enough reason, but like kicking ciggies and booze, it is only you who is going to do it.

Easier said than done of course. You used to have reasons you obviously miss. Your sport, music and your ex. You weren't like this when you had them.

We all lose our stuff as we go on, and sometimes it's hard to deal with. Easily available drugs and booze give us the buffer we need, but at some point they cease to help and just keep us from getting back up again.

I can't tell you what to do, but it might help to find your reasons again. Play your music again, join a local rugby club and lose your new friends mate they aren't helping.

You know you will have to do it sooner or later, so do it today. Get strong again.

Maybe try to contact your old friends and tell them that you really need help. If that doesn't work talk to somebody older, like a relative or even a counselor at a free health clinic or something. If you don't get help your life will only get worst and you will more likely die from this lifestyle, one way or another.

No it's not normal to feel like your dying. It sounds like drug abuse has created real depression for you. I don't know about you but for me cannabis caused me some very serious issues that I struggled with for 25+yrs. Now that I don't use cannabis and am on a low dose of Prozac I don't feel like watching the world burn everyday.

I know you are using drugs to make you feel better, but the boomerang effect of self medicating will keep you spinning your wheels for years.

Go to a clinic and tell your GP you have depression, he/she will refer you to a mental health doc. They will work with you to help you get past the abyss of depression.

I know when your depressed making an appt and keeping it is the last thing you could really care about. Just pick up the phone and make the call, getting the ball rolling towards your recovery will help you feel a little better in the mean time.

You need to get this under control while your still young, I wasted over 20 yrs struggling with self medicating due to depression.

I recently finally quit cannabis and am on a low dose of Prozac. I definitely feel normal now and can care about my life again.

Despite what EVERYBODY says cannabis will destabilize your mood and cause depression with daily use in many many people.

I used to have a very serious drug problem, and by the time I was only 16 I had lost everything. I was fortunate to get help, there are treatment centers everywhere and even if you have no money they will help you out. There is also things like NA (narcotics anonymous) and AA (alcoholics anonymous) just look na or aa up on the Internet and you can easily find a meeting in your area today! And as long as have the desire to stop your drug use you are welcomed with open arms. Today I'm 18 and have my family back a job and most importantly myself back. Drug addiction is tragic, so many of my loved ones have been taken from me because of this disease, but there is help if you want it. I know today that I'm a very lucky girl to be alive and no longer in active addiction. Life is tenuous already much less when you throw drugs into the mix. Be grateful your alive, you can never use drugs if you're truly grateful. I hope you can find the help you need, your not alone.

Weed doesnt do damage to you. If you cant handle it, and use it as an excuse to use harder drugs then dont use it.
