Is it normal to be introverted?

I have a bunch of friends yet I don't feel like going out or being around a whole lot of people all of the time. I sometimes will just make up an excuse or tell them I don't want to go out with them. I really enjoy my own time by myself. I'm not shy, when I want to socialize I will and to a great extent but it seems like I have short bursts of wanting to be social and the rest of my time is introverted to me time. It is like an annoyance to be around people constantly for me. Is this normal?

    People = Drama

    I am in the same boat it's not just that I don't have friends I am not willing to do the tasks required to maintain friendships, I feel like I just don't have the time to make time for myself, my interests, my relationship with my B\F and friendships. I think some people require more external stimulation than others (extroverts) and this may extend to friendships as well

    I'm pretty much the same in that I often need a time-out from social activities, it's perfectly normal and a lot of people are more or less 'introverted'. Just don't let it go too far, you might just lose some friends that you'll end up missing.

    Actually, 25% of people would label themselves that way. So, technically not "normal", but perfectly ok!
