Is it normal to be happy and single?

I feel that being single, I'm setting myself apart from my friends. All of my friends have boyfriends or are engaged. I don't feel right now that I want one, or rather, can't find one worth dating. I'm working on a degree and I live a very independent life. I provide for myself, and feel like having a single life is what's in store for me this year. I do, however, get grief from friends when I don't date someone I don't like. I just like the uncomplicated life right now. I love making friends, but don't let guys get real close. Some say I'm too independent. Is it normal to be happy and single?

Nothing wrong about that. People often seek out partners for happiness. If you're happy now, then keep going.

Your friends are probably worried you'll be lonely without a boyfriend, don't let that bother you but don't remove the idea totally from you either.

I know you probably don't care for religious stuff but the Buddha once said that true happiness comes from within and to not seek it without. Many people look for external validation and happiness, when you can actually be happy with who you are. You do not need a partner to be happy. This is 100% normal.

a lot of people don't enjoy their own company enough to be alone. if you like yourself and are an interesting, independent person, you're above the crowd. i get comments like, "you're pretty. you should be married," which basically suggests that anyone who can attract men should be with one. some people are this way, and maybe your friends couldn't handle going solo, but if you can, that's great. you don't need anyone to "complete you."

Sounds like me because this is exactly how I feel. I think there's nothing wrong with it, because this is the life for you at the moment. You may find true love later on in life, so enjoy the independent life while it's right for you.
