Is it normal to be friends with freinds ex-boyfriend

My friend went out with this guy for like 1 1/2 months and then they broke up. They're still sorta friends I mean they talk and text but I wouldn't say there friends. But now I'm becoming friends with him. I have no intention what so ever to date him but he's really cool and a great friend, but I don't want to loose my friend for him you know, but is it normal/okay to b friends with him?
