Is it normal to be extremely sensitive to sound?

I can't stand sound especially when I'm nervous. I live with room mates and I feel like I'm constantly walking on eggshells, because noise bothers me so much that I can't concentrate on work. Is there something wrong with me?

Aren't most of us like this? Or, am I just in denial?

I have something similar- it's called Hyperacusis. Some days are better than others. Sometimes it's only certain frequencies that are painful, while other times it's pretty much everything.
Of course, I don't know what your specific instance of this is or what it's caused by. Mine's been diagnosed as idiopathic, but sometimes people get similar symptoms from minor hearing damage, which sounds counter-intuitive but is a common cause. Also, people on the Autism spectrum seem to be more prone to developing hearing sensitivity.
You should do a little research. Sometimes there are simple fixes like wearing noise-cancelling headphones when something's really bothering you. If nothing else, a trip to your doctor may be in order to help you figure it out.

It's very normal. I have that problem too. I can't focus on my job, and sometimes I get headache.
