Is it normal to be disliked for what you eat?
I mean, I know most people aren't vegan. But I don't lord the fact that I'm vegan over everybody. In fact, I generally try to avoid the whole subject. But more often than I would like, people seem to get OFFENDED by the fact that I don't eat animal products. And it's not even food gatherings, they're just people I talk to. I don't get it - I'm not judging them, and my way of life isn't hurting anyone. It's a dietary choice; some people don't like broccoli, I don't like cheese. So what's the big deal? How am I offensive to anyone, when I respect all people equally? I don't think I'm better than anyone, so why the animosity?
And it's not even hard for me to be a vegan. I don't make people go out of their way for me; I make my own way, so it's not like I'm forcing people to accommodate me. And like I said, I generally avoid it. I'll only talk about it if someone asks me about it. I just don't get how someone can dislike and be offended by someone just because they eat different food. Isn't there more to people than what they eat? "Vegan" describes what I eat; it's not my job description or something.
