Is it normal to be depressed about time?

I'm 26, my brother is 16, sure I am an older sibling but we are really more like friends now compared to before, and a few days ago he was asking me about the 90s. And I realized that because he was born in the late 90s, he didn't know a thing about that decade, while my entire childhood was the 90s. And it just made me think, like, I have a friend online who's 10 years older than me (the exact age difference between me and my brother) and because I was born in the late 80s, I don't know anything about the decade, but for my friend the 80s was basically his childhood. It's just so funny how that works out. But it also makes me a little sad, that there could be people out there just like us who we could really connect with, but who just happen to be born in a different time period, or different generation.

I don't see the problem. I'm 68, so I grew up in the late 40's and early 50's. Most of my friends are around 20 years younger than me and it's just another interesting difference.

I just spent a few days with my 18 yo grandson, who's fascinated with the differences in our respective life experiences, esp the fact that he's grown up with technology and I'm still coming to grips with most of it, especially those hideous touch screens. We understand each other well and laugh and tease each other about the differences.

It's not a barrier unless you make it into one.

I feel like I missed out not growing up in the 80s and being an adult in the 90s.

I've had similar thoughts.... How different would I be if I lived in a different time period? Think of all of the things that happened before us; most of it will be forgotten. Kind of makes you realize how insignificant we are in the long run. Only the most influential people will be remembered.
