Is it normal to be creeped out by jehovah's witnessess?

One day I was going to the city by train with my family. When the train stopped outside a casino I noticed hundreds of people coming out of the building all wear near identical clothing. I thought it was for a wedding or something (you can rent out certain rooms for special ocassions), but when they stepped inside the carrige I saw their tags. It said they were Jehovah's Wittnesses!

Naturally, I felt a bit uneasy to say the least. My family and I were the only other people there. It's like one of those horror movies where the city folk are trapped in a barn, surrounded by the local population of rednecks who are ready to strike you with their pitchforks.

I realise that there are good and aspects about all religions, but I consider these people to be some sort of evil cult (along with scientologists and mormons [what's so special about that magic underwear, anyway?])

To get to my point; is my fear of these freaky people valid? Are they really the mind controlling cults that the media make them out to be?

Discuss

P.S - I am not a small minded bigot, nor am I an immature, undersexed teenager. I am being quite serious.

I had Jehovahs Witnesses waiting at my driveway as I came home, because I live on a farm out of suburban areas? Anyway, I was really upset as I had just lost a baby, I had lost my grandma 2 months before that, my husband had a heart attack 2 months before that and my brother in law had lost his 13month old son to SUDS 2 months before that!!! I was really upset with all the death in our lives and asked why they had to die... They said my nan was old and that is normal but obviously the parents didn't love the baby enough for it to live!!! WTF!!! Your kidding aren't you??? They told me I lost my baby because it was never meant to be and that it was my fault... I started bursting into tears and told them to leave... I now shudder and avoid the Jehovah's if I see them... I don't know if this is correct for them to day this, but this 1 'mother and son' couple of J W's has now changed my opinion on the J W's... If there are any Jehovah's out there who want to correct what they had said to me and explain it on here, feel free too!!! I would like to know if that is true that we never deserved our chance with the babies??? I didn't need to hear that at that time, how Inconsiderate!!! Good luck with this, I do completely understand why/How they could day that to me but I bv

I am so sorry for your losses, and I deeply apologize on the behalf of those 'witnesses', but I can't bring myself to say that they were really one of us. They couldn't have been, because what they said to you was cruel, and we're not like that. Maybe they were posing as Witnesses, intent on giving us a bad name? i don't know. But please accept my apologies on their rude, mean-spirited behavior.

I like them. They're kind and courteous, and what they say make sense. They're the best religion I've ever had the pleasure of associating with. I don't happen to be one, but I am beginning to study. I like them a lot. Maybe you should try pushing away your presumptions of them, and try listening? And if you don't want the literature, don't throw it away. If you ask, they'll put you on a 'do not call' list. But that literature costs money, provided souly by donations, that are not even required, but given out of the goodness of people's hearts. If you don't want a magazine, give it back. But don't be rude. That makes you look like an ignorant loser. Also, that was a convention. I've been to them, and they don't all dress the same. They dress nicely, not inappropriately., So excuse me, how dare they try to dress nice, and gather together! They are definitely a cult! Yes, I am being sarcastic. You are small minded, and ignorant.
Also, as I've mentioned, I know Jehovah Witnesses. They're cool. They have parties. They sing, they dance, they go to the mall. They laugh, they cry, they bleed, just like you. The only difference is that they try to serve God, and try to be good. You probably don't care one way or another, you probably just live life to live.

^All for this post. Anyone who just believes stereotypes should make effort to find the truth for themselves, about the kind of people they are. They are an example for the reckless and uncalled-for behavior that you commonly see everyday. I'm not one either, but I would much rather live surrounded by Witnesses than by the common judgmental people of the world, anyday.

You really shouldn't make judgements about anything you don't know anything about. It's extremely ignorant.

I have a friend who is a witness and it was honestly two years before I found out. And she happened to be one of the coolest chicks I ever met. Witnesses are stereotyped to death and most of those stereotypes are wrong. My friend was nothing like I would have expected a witness to be like.

Witnesses are just another religion. They believe almost exactly the way a Christian does with only a couple minor differences. And it is part of their religion to witness to others. They don't always like doing it, but they do because it's dictated as such. There is nothing cult-like about them.

I used to live near a Jehovah's Witness sanction and they would always come by and give us pamphlets. Every week was the same story, you'd be at home enjoying your Saturday and then a bunch of Jehovah's Witness' would knock on your door and pester you to convert.

I think I may have inadvertantly accepted one time by buying a subscription to there magazine to shut them up. Even after I moved, they're still sending then to me. I don't know how they know my current address but it creeps me the hell out.

They're fools, wasting their time (and ours) with superstitious nonsense. In this they are similar to Mormons, Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Sheiks, Jains, Hindus... sorry if I left yours out, but you get the picture. Religion sucks balls!

No, they aren't a cult xinnoo and beware of people with mentality. Just because a religion does not share the beliefs of YOUR religion, it does not make it a cult.

And again, you're making assumptions about things you know nothing about. They do actually believe in Jesus they just believe different things about him.

In fact we try to avoid the cult and demons and all of that stuff. If u don't want us to call on you, just say so! We won't take it personally and we will leave u alone I promise :D

Um... No. you really think it’s just you behind the door don’t you. You don’t think that it’s us coming out FOR FREE to preach to you. And do you listen? No. In rain or snow, we come to your doors to save your life and we are aggressively turned down. Door after door after door. And you think it’s just you who have feelings huh? Once when I was 6 I knocked on the door to preach to someone and they slammed the door in my face. I was on the verge of crying but did that stop me from wanting to preach? No. I wanted to save their lives, even if they were rude to me. Thank you but think that it’s not just you behind the door. It’s us knocking.

I once had jury duty with a JW who seemed normal enough, but given what I've read about the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, your intimidation is justified. (This person I met claimed that the head of his "Church" said that their members were not allowed to associate with non-JW's.)

For one thing, JW's do not wear crosses, because they believe that Jesus died on a stake, and I know of absolutely nothing to support this. (Secular or theological.) They have many beliefs that I would describe as being either odd, intolerant, or even outright wrong.

To the above comment, let me tell you:
It is scientifically impossible for Jesus to have dies on a cross. His body weight would slowly tear at his arm sockets, causing it to become detached. Duh. Also, ask a JW for a magazine about the cross. They actually have one, specifically explaining it, with scientific and bible references.

Also, in the bible, it clearly states it's bad to worship or use idols. a cross is an idol.

Scientifically impossible?! So I suppose every other crucifixion that the Romans did never happened, either! :-D Moreover, I have seen evidence from secular sources that crucifixion *IS* possible, but I'll pass on the literature, since Watchtower literature also once claimed "vaccination never prevented anything and never will." I'd sooner believe Mirza Ghulam Ahmad's belief that Jesus survived crucifixion and fled to Kashmir.

The notion of Biblical references to support the Watchtower claim sounds like one formulated by ignoring parts of the Bible, but then again, the Bible is so full of contradictions, it can literally mean anything to anybody. (The Bible specifically states that Jesus carried his own crucifix, as well as having his crucifix carried by Simon of Cyrene.)

And goody good on them for their interpretation of what the Bible has to say about idols. I'm sure it's killed a lot less people than the JW belief about blood transfusions.

well Jehovahs Witness are cult, they try to spread God's words which is good don't get me wrong, however they cut out Jesus Christ which is bad!
As you can only approach God only through Jesus Christ.

don't listen to them Jehovah's Witness as they can't manipulate your mind.

Actually, we strive to follow Jesus, so how could we 'cut him out'? We end our prayers, 'In the name of Jesus Christ, amen', so how could that be cutting him out? I suppose your one of the many people who base their judgments on what they hear, not actual facts. Many of our publications are centered around Jesus, so I don't know where you got this info from, but it is dead wrong.

I have no opinion on any religion as I take people as I find them and JW's have called to my house. I think I had too many problems for them coz they didn't call back after a while ;o) However, would you please answer why they wouldn't donate blood to their kid if the child needed it?

Just curious. It may not even be true but it's what I've heard.

Sorry that it's taken me so long to reply. I researched an answer for you:

One: The bible states to abstain from blood. Basically, that means not letting any foreign blood (blood that isn't yours), into your body. Example: If a doctor said that drinking wine would kill you, so you should abstain from it, would you hook it up to your arm in an iv drip? Of course not.

Secondly: There are many health risks that come with blood transfusions. You might get the wrong blood, making things worse. There might be an unknown disease in that blood. Human error, you know? But, there are many non-blood treatments that doctors now use. I'm surprised not many people know this, but more and more doctors are starting to do them. There's no foreign blood involved, and it takes less time to recover from surgery. One is called 'cell salvage'. We have many articles, even a few dvds, with doctor's opinions and statements, supporting non blood surgery.
