Is it normal to be creeped out by apes?

Apes freak me out, ever since i was little. It's just the fact that they resemble people so much, in terms of facial expressions, fingers, fingerprints, the ability to smile and laugh like us, etc. I wouldn't want to hurt one, but ick, wouldn't want to be near one either.

Oh yeah! One of the chimpanzees flipped me off! Dead serious there! Then he started chunking rocks

This is so ironic. I was at the zoo today watching the crazy apes.

  • I have far more in common with cats than with apes.

When an ape "smiles", it means it is nervous or afraid. That is why trained apes smile when they are brought out onto a stage in a diaper to amuse people.

Normal. Being creeped out by things which look human but aren't is called the Uncanny Valley Effect. I suggest looking into it. It's quite fascinating actually.

  • The facial expressions creep me out a little. Ever seen that picture of the silver back gorilla with a look of grandfatherly disapproval on his face?

    Very creepy....
