Is it normal to be constantly thirsty?

Hey,

I find myself drinking more and more water, just to get more and more thirstier faster and faster. I down a cup of water and then 15 minutes later I'm craving more water with a really dry and foamy mouth. Sometimes it gets worse when i work outside in the sun but i'm guessing that's due to sweating. It can also replace food, which i found really weird... I worked an eight hour shift from morning till late noon without eating a thing, although i did have an incredible amount of water and other liquids.

I googled it and it didn't really have that much to say, it pointed at diabetes but no one in my family has had that and I really doubt it's that serious. Do I need more salt or something?

Thanks a lot for your feedback and help!

Yes. I would certainly eat more salt if I was thirsty all the time. Dolt.

i went through the same symptoms earlier this year, and although i don't have anyone in my family with diabetes thats what what the result was. My symptoms were the same as yours. I was drinking almost 5 liters of water daily, and no matter how much i drank i would have dry mouth the whole day. At night i would be up every 2 hours urinating, later i found it wasn''t the water but my body dumping extra glucose that my body could not handle. Luckily this led to a doctor visit, a lifestyle change, and have everything under control. With that being said i would highly recommend setting up an appointment with your doctor because the sooner you can figure out the root cause of the problem (whatever it is) the sooner you can make steps in the right direction.

Just because no-one in your family has diabetes does not mean you are completely immune, its often caused by lifestyle. If its lack of salt that should be easy to find out by just eating a bit more

Get checked for diabetes, it's likely you have type1. If you know someone with diabetes. Ask them to check your blood sugar with a gloucose monitor, it takes 15 seconds. Your sugar levels should not be above 120 below 60. If your number is high or low you must either see a doctor right away or go thru the emergency room

Get checked out for diabetes. You don't have to have a family history. Do you pee all the time and want to sleep? DO NOT eat salt, it will make you thirstier.

I submitted the same question about a month ago. Found out that it was my body adjusting to the hot weather, but I am the exact same drink 60-100 oz of water a day and still extremely thirsty. Sometimes hunger can be mistaken for thirst, but you need to eat even if it is water based food like melons or lettuce type veggies
