Is it normal to be completely disgusted by poor grammar and spelling?

I find myself completely disgusted when people do not know how to spell, or speak properly; leaving posts with your poor spelling and grammar is somewhat putting your ignorance on display. Seriously, did you not learn ANYTHING in Spelling/English classes in school? It's one thing to abbreviate from time to time, but to not know how to spell or write correctly at all (let alone speak correctly!) irritates me. Don't get me wrong, I am NOT judging anyone. I feel sorry for people that might actually have a disability, but to not care enough in school to actually learn or pay attention makes me sick to my stomach. Is this normal to be extremely irritated by the ignorance of people like this?

I don't mind typos, because they happen. If I'm on my ipod, I often write "tge" instead of "the" and don't realise it until I click submit.

Abbreviations I don't care as much because I hate spelling out "appointment". "Appt." is so much better.

If someone accidently misspells something but I can get what word it is then I don't care either.

But if a person compltely mutilates a language (English I guess because we're on this this topic) and they don't have a learning disability and that language is their first language then it bugs me.

Racoon is an idiot. There's nothing wrong with this at all. And you're not going to be alone forever, as he has suggested. I correct people all the time and I still have friends.

everyone has their pet peeves, but i don't see any reason to stress out over spelling errors. you can't control everyone's grammar skills, so what point is their to get upset over it?

I understand exactly how you feel . I am very annoyed by poor spelling and grammar. I do not know why I feel this way but I do. I think that you can be the smartest and wealthiest person in the world but if you present yourself by speaking or writing and use incorrect spelling or grammar you look like a total idiot. It annoys the hell outta me and people will judge you for it in secret or in your face. Learn how to speak and spell and if ya can't them keep your mouth shut . It's annoying and embarrassing to anyone who may be with you at the time. Yes there is a difference between errors due to typos than from just blatant misspellings.

Its annoying as hell to me too. When you don't even bother to capitalize or put in commas on a reply that you have limitless time to write it makes you look like a idiot.

I can accept typos and if English isn't your first language, but its annoying on sites like this.

"Disgusted" doesn't do it justice! Lol, jk. I used to be pedantic about this kind of thing, but there are more important and disgusting things in life..

It may not be necessarily ignorance...it just could simply be because they were not taught correctly. As long as you understand what they're trying to say then whatever.

you're judging by the way, so stop to try looking all sweet with your PC thing of not being judgmental.

This is the internet, 80% of the people on here aren't raised in English.

Anyway, enjoy loosing your hairs prematurly and turning off people that are interested in you because you correct their love notes or invitation texts

Language evolves. As long as you can understand the gist of what somebody means, then that's fine. Don't stress about it.

My only pet peeve on this is apostraphes, because they can genuinely change the meaning if a sentence if used incorrectly.
