Is it normal to be bored at work?

Don't get me wrong, I love my job and will be sad for the offseason coming up. I have had a great repore and are leaving this tax year on the fifteen with a higher position in life. I love to help those who need help and even those who normally annoy me, I go the extra mile to help.

Now with that being said, the tax preparation field is down this year and I am often finding myself in my office with nothing to do. Sure, I work with good people and I enjoy and respect their company. However I often do not feel like talking and will often spend my time on sites like this than doing actual "work" as there is quite often no one to help on.

HERE IS THE QUESTION:
Is it okay to be bored at times with a job you enjoy but just spend the day doing nothing, but getting paid pretty well for it? Also, is it okay to feel bad about getting paid to stare at the wall?

Thanks.

Of course it's normal.. Who wants to work?... We came out of a human being to be fed lies about how everything works and what not, and that the golden rule is so so important...

Let's just face it, we would all if we could grab that billion and never see the lights of where we used to live again, settle down somewhere else.... No job, no working at all... Ever.

Try and find something to do - - workwise that is. If you got to your post and money situation by good work ethic, then show your worth and Get busy.

For as long as you got people round you, they will notice you're doing nothing and some may narc on you. And you don't want that - cause you got a good post and money is good. Dont want to tarnish that.

Hey Bud, think you can help me find more money at tax season? lol My husband and I get f*cked over royally each year. We pay and pay and pay. It sucks. Meanwhile the Welfare bums around us reap in the dough! I know you can't do much for us though, since we live in Canada. It just frustrates me to know end that we work our asses off for practically nothing. The government just loves raping me. Tax brackets... what a load of horse sh*t!!!!!!!!

    • Yeah, I would be more than happy to suggest some things. Right now though, I don't know enough of your situation to suggest anything so I would need to know more.

Would you like my email so we could talk privately on this matter? I wouldn't want to give your total income (AGI) or announce a ... credit to some of the people here.

        • I have a primary email and a secondary email for stuff online like registrations and so on. I don't mind giving out the secondary one.

I know exactly how you feel, I work two jobs, and I feel no motivation to do anything at either, I thought I was happy when I got my new job but I find it equally as boring as my older one, so yeah it's normal, you're not alone

    • Great, I hate office politics though. I made a quick joke about a coworker when I pulled a very dumb error and I heard about it today.

All I said was, "I pulled a ..." and said her name. Well, she heard about it and I have apologised but come on, in the office those things are dumb. It is fine though, I was just trying to break up my monotony.

  • Right now, my boss is going potty but today she is sitting right behind my desk at another desk.

AND THERE IS NOTHING TO DO. I helped one client and that took a whole fifteen minutes today and looking busy with NOTHING to do sucks even more when she is here. Hell, I cleaned the office already but yuo can only vaccuum or wash the windows so many times.

    Shit, shes com

i used to mind-f*ck myself at work.

it got to the point where i was nearly able to disconnect myself from external reality =)

    maybe you should try it.
it takes a lot of mental stamina and can be frightening.

  • Yeah it does. I am in my weekend now and I have done nothing but sleep so it is like two full weeks of work and so on. It should be fine though as the tax season is almost over and those who wait until the last minute should be coming in but that didn't help the last week worth a damn.

i think it's normal to be bored with your job once in awhile.

having to fake busy is harder than actually working in my opinion.

sometimes there's some boring minor stuff you could be doing, but just don't feel like it.
i think that happens to most of us.

  • Hind note, I am not a big fan of the "Anonymous Story Author" feature and I dont' think I will use it anymore. If others use it, it is fine but as a whole I am not anymore.

You shouldn't be doing nothing and getting paid for it. But that's the corporate point of view. Most people would love to loaf and get paid. If you feel so bad about it, complain to management and get some busy work. Otherwise, continue to stare at the wall.

    • I wrote that yesterday but as a whole I would rather work. I love my job and the owner is a hard working man who is a good guy to work for. However, I just feel bad as he spent his whole life savings on this and he is barely breaking even. I just wish I could do more.

    • Thanks, I wrote that story while being bored at work but later in the day I had to do a tax return that took two and a half hours. I went home feeling good with myself so I had a good day.

It wasn't really a complaint, more of a comment.
