I have seen that before where the parents divorce, then become best friends. I Have even heard of ones where the parents date again after the divorce. A lot of times, its the stress of the marriage that brings it crashing down. The couple still love each other, but the marriage was more than they can bear.
I voted not normal because it seems unusual to me, but it's most definitely a good thing that you are able to be such good friends him. It really benefits the kid when his/her parents get along.
My parents divorced when I was 5 and I can still remember all the screaming and fights even to this day, it's very traumatizing.
