Is it normal to be bad at bass?

I started "playing" the bass recently, and I can't seem to do anything right. I can't move my fingers to the right fret, or press down hard enough to make it sound good, etc., no matter how much I concentrate. Will I always be like this?

I produce a very rich bass sound when I'm on the crapper.

I was like that when I started playing the guitar, it happens to everyone.

After a while you'll just be able to reach, your fingers need time to get used to moving in such strange ways.

Ten years of practice is what you need. Then post this stupid ass question.

It's normal because you just started. Very few people seem to be able to automatically be good at a instrument they've only just begun to learn.

You're still learning. Your fingertips will develop callouses pretty soon. If they hurt too much, put a thin layer of Superglue Gel on your fingertips and let dry. For real. If you want to progress more quickly, always practice with a drum loop playing so you can start to play on time and in the groove.

Absolutely stay with it - bass players and drummers are always in demand. You'll always be able to get into a band.

You just have to practice nobody just came and played good for the first time. Don't worry you'll get better~

Bass is a very easy instrument but it sounds like you are struggling with finger strength which is a common complaint when starting on fretted instruments. Try low tension strings or tuning below standard if it is really hard for you. On the coordination thing only practice will allow you to coordinate your left hand fretting ability.

I encourage you to try with the traditional method but if you ever really feel you can't make any headway, you could setup the bass for tapping which is easier on the fingers and requires less coordination.

It helps if you have big hands. Lucky for me I do. Just keep at it.
