Is it normal to be awkward with my motor skills?

So I've never been good at any sort of sports, be it football, basketball, voleyball or anything really since I'd always lose the ball with ease, I'd never be able to properly catch a ball or respond in time with my body, and when I did I'd usually fuck it up.

I'm also horrible at tying my shoes, I've been taught to do it many times yet I never got it right and I'm slow as shit doing it. My calligraphy is also horrendous and I've tried improving it to no avail. I also used to play drums before but I was rather bad at it even though I'd practice regularly, and I had a hard time learning new techniques.

I also tend to bump a lot on things, drop things that I'm holding, I'll sometimes stumble on something when walking, and I'm terrible at doing any sort of manual work like building stuff like stick houses, knitting/sewing, painting/drawing, cutting things with a knife or scissors in a straight line or specific shape, and a list of other things. As an additional note, each and every time I went to a gig and got into a mos pit I fell down on my own, no need to be pushed or anything, I just fell down on my own lmao.

So yeah, most people I know never had any problems with more than one or two of these things while I'm just terrible at moving basically. Doesn't really feel normal.

All of that is normal 5
Almost none of that is normal 6
Just some of it is normal 5
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

Dont blame being sucky at a skill as autism when theres other disorders and conditions that cause it. I'm not autistic but I still have a speech impediment. Makes free talking very difficult, though im competent when writing.

Exactly. There’s also the possibility that it’s no disorder. More often than not it’s just the simple fact that alot of people aren’t athletically built or inclined. We don’t all have the same bodies or brains, it’s not a disorder.

Why are so many people attributing mild impediments to autism what is this the early 2000s?

I swear to god they are making the spectrum larger each year. How long until everyone is on the spectrum?

It’ll get to the point where there will be people protesting because they’re not allowed on the spectrum and they don’t want to be left out lololol.

I literally had a shrink tell me point blank that I had autism because "adults compensate for their autism" thus if you have to repress something it automatically becomes autism. Dispite I had prior tests when I was young and there was zero trace of autism, just some neurological stuff.

I have been thinking about that for some time really, my social skills are also very awkward and the way I process feelings and most situations feels off. I just don't seem to present other common traits of autism such as sensory issues or stimming afaik, unless I haven't noticed that stuff (tbh I wouldn't even notice if I have sensory issues because I can't make comparisons lol).

Self-diagnosing isn't safe really, specially since many of the symptoms of autism can be product of something else (again, I have ADHD for an example). I can't really go out and get tested to see if they find if I have ASD although I'd love to do that, but it'd have to be at a later date.

I did take a lot of different online tests and did my research and most of the time I did get high scores that would indicate some sort of autism, what before was considered Asperger's perhaps.

I could probably use someone on the spectrum to talk to and make some comparisons lol. I know some people on the spectrum already but I'd rather not bother them with that kinda stuff.

I shall take up Formalin's offer.
As an autists, I shall judge.
            Bad social skills: ✔
            Poor motor skills: ✔
Have you ever stacked food cans/line up toys when you were little?
Do you dislike being touched sensually?
            Do you dislike eye contact?
            Do you dislike loud noises?
Do you have a near/fully unhealthy obsession?
✔ 2 more & you might be acute.
            ✔ 3 or 4 more then it's a definite maybe.
✔ all 7 & you might want to get checked.

Have you ever stacked food cans/line up toys when you were little? can't remember, I didn't play too much with toys as a kid, I'd usually watch TV or play on the computer.

Do you dislike being touched sensually? I've been there just a couple of times and it was rather confusing, I do dislike being touched most of the time though, it bothers me.

Do you dislike eye contact? Yeah, I usually stare at the distance when having a conversation or at anything but the person's eyes, I might gaze at their eyes for a small fraction of time before looking anywhere else.

Do you dislike loud noises? It depends, if someone's drilling or screaming next to me I do get somewhat irritated, but I tend to rehearse with my band, listen to loud music and go to gigs and most of the time I'm okay with it, so it can't be generalized.

Do you have a near/fully unhealthy obsession? Somewhat depends, one thing that I'm obsessed with is keeping track of the music I listen to with last.fm and that means that I'll keep track of everything, I'll do manual scrobbles, delete songs that I didn't listen to, and I'll even try not to listen to music if I can't track it.

Then I also keep lists of a lot of other things and I have this rather annoying obsession of doing things in a specific order: I've been listening to albums by release date for over a year now, from 1963 to 1976 so far, going through every month and day, I won't listen to an album released in July if I haven't listened to all the albums released before that. Same with videogames really, I won't play the second title of a franchise without having played the first one most of the time.

I also feel the need to have everything organized and tagged on my computer, to a point in which I can spend literally hours organizing folders and tagging files and all. IRL I don't have much personal space but in my desktop I have everything organized as well. Also, I hate working in groups unless everyone follows the same exact process I use for doing stuff, so like, if I'm working on an excel file creating some sort of database, I'll only do it with other people if they agree to follow the exact same methods I use; even improper capitalization of words, like "House Of Cards" will just make me pissed off lol.

Now I don't know if any of that is "unhealthy", I mean my life is not at risk, it's just time-consuming and stressful but I can't help it really. There's also a lot of other stuff that I tend to do, much of which I rarely even notice.

Being bad at sports is deemed normal by nearly everyone, but the others, not so much. Maybe you have a condition, and naming it [getting it diagnosed] may be a good idea.

I don't know, I know someone with dyspraxia and their problems go as far as not even being able to play a guitar which is something that I do and I am quite decent at. Didn't have a stroke or anything similar, I do think that I could be autistic though.

Lol, same. I drop things and bump into walls and furniture constantly, but still somehow have great balance and fine motor control. Don't know how that happens.

Best is when something flies out of your hands but you catch it again like spiderman before it hits the ground.

I'm not that clumsy, though my dexterity is about the level of a highschool woodshop student.
