Is it normal to be aromantic

I know this isn't exactly normal but I'm curious how common it is.
I had never heard of this word until today. It describes an absence of romantic attraction to anyone. I have never in my life understood what the big deal everyone makes about romantic love. Honestly I have never been able to understand what that is. I do find some women aesthetically pleasing and have a normal sex drive but have never had a desire for or understood why anyone would desire a romantic relationship. That said I have had two girlfriends in the past, one for 6 months and one for 4 years. Both times I didn't want a relationship at first but it built up to one after time. In my 4 year relationship she broke up with me because we just didn't seem to bond and she noticed we seemed no different than friends with benefits who lived together. I still cannot comprehend what the difference is though. I realize there are emotions that other people have that I do not and I am actually very curious what it feels like.

My boyfriend is pretty much the same as you. He just finds it difficult to express any sort of emotion apart from anger. So I wouldn't say you're completely alone but it's is reasonably abnormal. I think you just have to find yourself a partner that isn't particularly bothered by romantic things either, good luck! :)

P.s. I assume EccentricWeird was attempting to make a joke about aromatic hydrocarbons or something of that ilk, so basically it had nothing to do with your post...

    • Not being able to express emotion is different from being aromantic. I do have trouble with emotion expression and I would imagine that is common to co-occur being aromantic and trouble with emotion expression but they're different. People who are aromantic seem unable to comprehend romantic love and its usually an inborn trait like gayness is. They can still have relationships but don't desire one when they aren't in one and while they can bond with people in friendly ways the concept of romance just doesn't make sense.
