Is it normal to be annoyed when someone claims they are employed

but they arent?

They are a stay at home mom and never worked even when they were a kid.

They always tell people they are employed and that being a mom is an employment when I strongly disagree. What's up with this? They even want to sue an insurance company for not calling them employed.

They have one son who is well behaved so theres never any drama with her and she lives with her mom and dad so they always help her. How is that being employed?? You tell me.

  • I think stay at home moms say that kind of thing, or inflate every little thing they do into occupational categories (I'm a financier, nurse, educator, psychiatrist etc) because they need to feel validated. They do not feel they are given as high a status as being employed.

It is sad, really. There is nothing wrong with being a homemaker. But there are other things to do with oneself as well.

Maybe she considers it employment because she gets welfare?? And thinks getting paid for it is a career?? And is a job/duty but not employment.

Raising kids is a job. My wife works very hard at it. Maybe too hard. So yes...

They have son that is well behaved? Why do you think that is? Because his mother was there to take care of him and discipline him!

Correct! Employment is something you can be fired from. Unfortunately you can't just give a parent the old elbow if they are crap at parenting. It's a shame really.

Hahaha! I am a mom of a three year old and have another on the way, and while it is difficult to raise kids, I disagree that it counts as a job. I raise my kid and work at least 40 hours a week in a jail. THAT'S employed.

Getting kids ready for school, cooking, cleaning, managing finances, playing nurse, psychiatrist, life coach, chauffeur, is definitely a full time job, but it's not considered employment It is a job without a doubt.I was a stay at mom till my son was 10.He is now 14. There were times I wanted to pull my hair out but at the same time working outside the house was much more stressful. If we could afford for me to just take care the house again I would do it in a heartbeat.
