Is it normal to be annoyed when someone asks if i am married ?

If there was a culture that treated women like subserviant dogs, and they came to your country and treated you with that attitude, and they persisted in doing so even after you asked them to stop, would you be offended by that, or should you expected to "try to understand their culture".

Ok. Instead of women, what if it were single people that they had a problem with ? I used to work with a guy who would ask me about my relationship status over and over, even after I had asked him to stop. I found his behavior to be extremely irritating and offensive. In general, I think that it is rude to harass anybody about anything. It would be as rude as asking a fat person every month whether they are still fat. Is it normal for me to take offense to this ?

He's an ass, and you would be entirely within your rights to ask him if he's still stupid every time he asks you if you're still single.

Did you tell him flat out that you really don't like to discuss your relationship status at work and would prefer to keep to professional topics? I believe in giving people the benefit of the doubt; some people just don't know that others consider relationship questions prying or rude and believe they're just making conversation. It's equivalent to asking, "So, how about those [insert team name here]s?" or "Whew, how tired are you of all this rain?"

This guy also could never remember how I answered his questions. He kept asking over and over why I was going back to college in a different major. I told him that I was interested in Psychology, so that's why I went back to school, even though I already have an engineering degree. I never wanted to do engineering and I hated it when I was working as an engineer. I just got the degree to get my parents off my back. But apparently my answer wasn't good enough for him because he would ask me that every month over and over. Unlike the marriage or girlfriend question, the answer to why I went back to school was never going to change.

The other thing he would ask is if he could get or buy my university football tickets. I repeatedly told him no, because I never went to a game, and I had no idea whether re-selling your tickets violated university policy, or whether it was a hassle to get them and give them to someone else. I worked at an amusement park and a guy had re-sold his free tickets that he could give away, but since he re-sold them, they were escorting him out of the park in handcuffs. So this guy wanted my football tickets with little or no concern for the consequences that could have affected me.

And the kicker ... one time he wanted to move in with me. My answer to this was a resounding "hell no"!

To be honest, all I ever really wanted was for this guy to leave me alone.

Yikes...honestly, that guy doesn't sound like he was all there. He might merit an exemption for being mentally challenged or having some kind of developmental difficulty.

In general, though, people who don't bother to remember what you tell them are asses, as are people who pry into your business.

Eek! It sounds like maybe this guy was romantically interested in you and trying, in his own ham-fisted way, to express that. I agree with the advice above to tell him that it's none of his business.

Wow ! I remember a long time ago, someone said the same thing but I didn't think much of it. I never would have thought of that, but that could have been the case. Either way, it was none of his business. :)

Punch him in the face, if he still doesn't stop hit him with a bat, if that doesn't work kick him in the dick. Kick him so hard he cant make children and tell him to stop bothering you.
