Is it normal to be annoyed by ocd 'diagnoses'?

Sometimes, it seems like any little quirk someone writes about on here, there will be numerous comments labelling it as OCD, regardless how innocuous the activity/habit.

Just because someone likes to do something in a certain way, doesn't neccessarily mean they have OCD.

Quit trivialising a serious condition, guys!

Ok, end of rant. Any one else feel this way?

This could only have been written by someone with OCD.

    • No, just someone who had a friend with an actual diagnosis of OCD, who had severe limitations on his life because of it. He struggled to accomplish anything in life, and was severely emotionally and physically effected by it and ended up committing suicide.

So when people throw the term around til it no longer has meaning, makes for somewhat of a sore spot, for some reason...

My friend annoys me like that, whenever I do a little thing like make a space on the window so I can see, just because it is foggy, she " colors in" the other parts I missed, and everytime she does it, she says " omg i know im soooo OCD, its like a problem....." It annoys the living hell out of me.

Unless you have had your life controlled by this disorder and have wished that you could take things like eating for granted, you have no place in calling your little habits "OCD".

Sorry to sound sappy, but I totally agree with this post! :-)

I am so controlled by routines that going on trips with my family is dreaded and stressful rather than pleasurable. I am learning to be more flexible, little by little.

        • I'm sorry. My friend was so controlled by routines as well. He hid it from his parents, somehow. I hope your family are there for you.

OCD is a common problem , a fair few of posters on here could have the condition. I myself have OCD and try not to let it run rampant with my life , but you know just mentioning the possibility that someone has it shouldn't bother you so much , Id say you might have a mild form of OCD

    • Yes, you're correct, they could well do, and I have no issue with a helpful suggestion that may lead to someone getting help with a real condition, that's one of the great things about this community in general - it's mostly pretty helpful.

I'm a perfectionist, but I don't have rituals that I need to perform. I like the idea of order, but in reality, I'm quite a slob. My laziness wins out over most of my perfectionism, sad but true.

Very true. I think I have had done a rant touching on this before. I guarentee that 90% of the OPs labelled as "OCD" on this website are totally normal. Everyone has their own idiosyncrasies, their is no need to trivialise a real life condition. It is the same story with hypochondria, bipolar, tourettes... hey, pretty much everything these days.

Gee, thanks! The real question is, do I know who *you* are? And please do NOT make me guess, I'm terrible at that!

I hate all labels for psychological problems.
I'm with Dom180 - allow us all to have our little idiosyncrasies, before we end up as robots!!

I myself, am a hand washing, check and recheck twitchy freak off of my meds, so yes, when someone throws it out there so carelessly, my blood boils.

The most bullshit diagnosis is ODD its basically that if you are defiant you have a disorder, when I was 14 a doctor said I had odd and had to go on medicine I said "don't bother writing that prescription I won't that that shit anyways" which kind of convinced him even more

I agree it does get annoying, like someone I know everything she does practically falls under "I'm so OCD (insert every action here) that annoys the crap outta me!" God I just wanna kick her in the face everytime.
