Is it normal to be angry about paying bills?

I have this attitude that life should be free. Paying bills makes me mad.

I don't even have bills like credit cards or loans or anything beyond the basic utilities and a few other necessities, so it's not like I have big spending habits and am mad at myself for it. It's just that I am so angry that we're forced to live in a world that requires payment to simply LIVE. It disgusts me to turn over my money. There's absolutely no way to escape from it either, because there's always taxes!!

I am aware that this is how the world works, but that doesn't make a bit of difference as far as my anger towards it goes.

IIN? I've heard a lot of people say they felt good about paying their bills!! Barf...

WOW. If you don't want to pay the power bill, don't use electricity. If you don't want to pay the Internet bill, don't use the Internet.

I agree with you. Paying bills isn't fun, but it's essential. Without paying bills, you wouldn't have acess to water or electricity. No pain(in the wallet),no gain.

To your desire to fuck me: Yes, you can happily fuck your alter ego, it is the only person who would be pleased by your sexual attention. Fuck your self, you are good at it as you have nobody else to fuck.
What is your real name? Come on, you know it: Mr. Perfect Onan.

Paying bills, and paying your taxes, is part of being a responsible adult in a civilized society. Sadly too many Americans don't seem to understand the concept.

Who's happy paying bills in the first place!
However, if you can't accept how this "modern" world works then go live in a forest, dig a hole or find a cave.

It's just the way it goes, if nobody have to pay bills it'd be complete chaos in the world because no one would work and have any goes in life.

Of course, it's normal but the only way to escape it is to move to a ungoverned island and become self sufficient.

I don't know if you're entitled or just not good at articulating this point. I agree in a sense, but for a different line of reasoning.

I disagree with greed in general. Greed is what runs our entire bloody system, and yeah it's kind of fun, the flashy toys are cool and all. But the older I get, the more I feel that I would rather live in a world that had advanced it's humanity as it had it's technology. We could be doing so much to help our planet and our fellow man, but becasue of greed and bills and cities and houses and iPads, I'm sitting here in a comfortable couch while children in Africa are dying.

I feel it would be good to live closer to the earth and further from this system of power and consumerism and monetary value that is trivializing our culture. What would the human race be like, if we had put effort into humanity rather than making bigger guns, bigger bombs? Meh.. I'm gonna shut up before this turns into a novel.

  • If you had to pay OTHER peoples bills,I could see why you're all pissed off,but you still have to pay for your own shit.

You are actually ANGRY? You feel someone is doing you wrong requiring that you too pay your way in society and for what you consume? Wow. What a sense of entailment.

OK - well try changing how you think about it and you'll change how you feel. When you're getting angry, think critically "is this REALLY being done to me to be unfair to me?" And does getting upset change anything? It works. It is a cognitive therapy approach and really reduces negative emotions, which are tiring and shitty to live with. I have first hand experience! David Burns and others have real practical books on this.

Look at the big picture. If you have a computer and can afford internet use and other frivolous things, then you have nothing to complain about. Your life isn't free because there are a ton of things that you enjoy that are privileges and not rights. Roads, schools, security, electricity, water... All of it makes life better and they all cost money. If you want your life to be free, your lifestyle must be free also. Go live in the jungle, see how you like it.

  • I have so many bills that I just love paying them now! I get excited when I get one in the mail. I get to open my little lock box and rip off a brand new check. Write it out, sign it (Woot woot), fill out the return address, stick a stamp on the envelope and either peel or lick it shut! Oh it's so much fun!

  • You are normal to not like it, I think everyone hates paying their bills. The ones that say they like it, aren't saying it because they enjoy the process of paying those bills, they simply enjoy getting rid of the anxiety that comes from having those debts over their head.

Sounds like you're focusing on the exchange of money too much. Try thinking of it as purchasing your "living expenses" instead of "paying the bills". Before modern consumerism existed, you'd have had to grow your own food and make your own heat and provide your own source of light (candles). Today, you just have to work at one very specific job and you can have all of that other stuff for a contribution from your salary. See, money is just a system of cooperation so that everyone doesn't have to do every single thing for themselves.

Yeah and back in the day, if you wanted food or water or a place to live, you would have to build all of it yourself, find the water yourself (or fight for it, or possibly join a group of people that would require services of you just to obtain the water or barter for it) and do all of the manual labor involved with it yourself whilst fighting by yourself to defend it all yourself if someone decides that they wish to take what you've got.

I highly doubt that most of us are prepared for such a task.

    • To do that now, you have to buy land. Then you're still under the law. And landowners pay property tax. There's no escape. See? No matter what we do, no one can be completely free, and to get any degree of freedom, one must have $$ to start off with (for buying property). We're born shackled to the system.

No one will notice you there should you decide to pitch a tent and create your own power grid :D

bills are annoying, but it's just a part of life. look at it this way, would you rather be homeless and living on the streets? those unfortunate people with no jobs or homes have to fight to survive, which is a lot more difficult than working steadily and paying bills.

Okay but if you didn't pay for these SERVICES how would you live? Would you build your own coal burning electricity grid or pay all the money for solar panels? To get water, you'd have to dig and maintain your own well. To get quality water you'd have to spend even more on either some pipeline or a purifier. Bills suck, but it's just more convenient.
