Is it normal to be an elitist in music & art taste

There I say it: I cannot stand when people listen to crap music. I will not explain which types of music belong to this group, but you know them if you like listening to good music. It's also true when it comes to other art forms. When a person watches a movie for action scenes and violence & sex, I think of them lowly. I just get an impression that he is not a cultured person and I have nothing to do with him/her. I have a similar feeling when a person doesn't read or all he/she reads is stupid romance novels or self-improvement(!) books.

I can continue but you get the picture. I am an elitist when it comes to music and arts, and I judge other people with these criteria. Is it normal?

    There is always that one guy in my college classes who sits there and bitches about how shitty modern music is and how modern movies lack the artistic value that they had in the 19-whatthefuckevers.

    You should find him and make friends with him and convince him to drop out of college. He gets on my fucking nerves.

    There's no such thing as good music and bad music,, there's just music you like and music you don't like. Same is true of all art. Similarly, there are no hard or easy quizzes - just ones you know the answers to and ones you don't.

    I can be an elitist this way too sometimes. I also like listening to some mainstream pop music here and there, but sometimes I'll fall into a bout of elitism and then feel bad about it. It's not really fair of me to judge others based solely on their cultural tastes or intelligence, but sometimes I get too caught up in myself. I'm very introspective, often overbearingly so.
