Is it normal to be allergic to deer?

So the other night me and my dad were driving home and we hit a deer with our car. It busted out the windows and a bunch of deer snot and deer hair got all over us. A couple minutes later (after we'd gotten over the initial shock of almost being killed) I started sneezing and breaking out horribly. I took a shower when I got home but still can't believe a freakin deer could cause this much pain.

It's normal. Next time carry some anti-histamines on you.

  • Sorry about your accident. Did the deer survive?

An allergic reaction to deer is quite normal.

My father is also allergic to their fur in the same way you are. He used to hunt deer when I was young (to feed his family) and he'd have to wear rubber gloves and cover himself head to toe while skinning them. Otherwise, he'd break out in hives, watery eyes, and start wheezing/sneezing.

The deer ran away, it was crazy! It was a huge buck though and royally screwed our car. We even went looking in the brush to see if it had died but found nothing. I guess it's a crazy way to find out your allergic to an animal!

      • That is a crazy way to find out! I'm glad you and your father were fine. And it's nice that the buck was able to run away... Even if it is injured, it can go die in the forest where it will feed other creatures. :)
