Is it normal to be afraid to loud noises

Ever since I was young, I've been afraid of loud noises. Jet flyovers, science class explosions, basketball game buzzers, and fireworks. I cover my ears right before a loud noise goes off and I look like a complete idiot. I've gotten over basketball ball game buzzers, but it still hurts my ears. Right before jet flyovers at NFL jaguar games I get extrememly nervous and start shaking , then after it Im extrememly relieved.

  • You may be more sensitive to harsh noises, but they are none-the-less harsh, loud and offensive.

You may just have really good hearing. I hear everything and I don't like noisy places.

I am the same way. I just stay in the house at 4th of July now because I can't really tolerate the noise. I'm 42 yo... It's never gotten any better...all loud and sudden noises scare me, freak me out, terrify me, and then I get really annoyed at the people who made them (ie: the kids or family setting off fireworks, like normal people, on the 4th). It's normal for me!

Maybe there is a physical reason for this, have you seen a Dr?
