Is it normal to be afraid of the future?

I've always kept my mind on the here and now - thinking further than a week or so into the future scares me. The question "Where do you want to be in 5 years time?" just gets some made up thing. It scares me to think of it.

I'm in a long term relationship and I've got to the point where I can say I'd like us to be together in the future, but if I think about it, it starts getting a little silly, ie we could live in a pirate boat.

Is that normal, or rather, is that something I should worry about?

It's absolutely normal! However, you need to be proactive rather than a worrywart.

It is normal to afraid of the future simply because it represents the unknown. Some of the other commenters are right and that you should enjoy the present as well However you can't be an ostrich and keep your head in the sand and completely ignore the future. You need to learn to let your mind wonder more than a week into the future otherwise you won't have a future, well a happy future anyway.

Just ignore it. If you think about the future you won't be able to enjoy life now, and once you're older all you will have to look about was how you always worried about your future, and never enjoyed life.

haha, it's so normal, the future is a huge big thing and you don't know what's going to happen. As long as you keep an attitude like this ("ie we could live in a pirate boat. ") I think you'll be ok.

sometimes yes...but when you are doing good deeds in your present then why do you have to worry about your future?... :)

probably normal. just remember, that saying something about your future plans isn't a committment.
